(continued)..... and the colonists were now safe in the bunkers beneath the grain silos.

A captain does not abandon his ship and thus I remained in the control tower in order to have a better assessment of the situation and the unfolding events. The contracted lance arrived on time and insisted on scouting the perimeter before approaching our settlement, with no raiders in sight I found it to be a wise precaution.

30 minutes passed and through the speakers I could hear my assistant speaking of high morale among the citizens in the bunker, the waiting took a toll on my nerves though, we had been warned by an interstellar mining cooperation that enemies were near, where were they and what were they waiting for?

All of a sudden out of nowhere 3 mechanized units appeared on radar to the north, I announced the threat to the hired lance who in the meantime had taken position to the south of the settlement. What happened next was indescribable, to my left and through the cockpit of a full throttled Jenner I could see the pilot smiling and giving me the thumbs up while his ride completely obliterated the nursery. To the right a Centurion clipped the main storage building and tore down part of wall, I was in shock.

Surrealism hit me like a heavily swung bat, the Men in Tights as they called themselves were clean in their execution of getting rid of the enemy apart from a slight oversight, our base was leveled to the ground and there was very little remaining to salvage, by a miracle the tower still stood tall, the leader of the careless mercenary lance approached it and I could see a big smile on the pilot´s face through the cigar smoked cockpit, another thumbs up and job well done according to his account of things. Still in shock I just transferred their salary.

The citizens emerged from the bunkers and I could see the disbelief in their eyes, all they ever worked for was pretty much gone apart from their lives, very little remained of the once beautiful settlement. I didn´t have the courage to tell them what really happened, that our settlement wasn´t demolished by raiders, that the raiders took flight once they saw there was nothing to pillage because the buildings were already destroyed, I am now on my way home, never again, never again.

LOL that is true if you take the Ai straight though the buildings you are defending. I try to stay to the outside and if I need to cut though pick a spot that has already been heavily damaged. Try to at least keep the middle in decent shape. Posted Image

Well that's exactly how I would feel if I hired a mercenary lance and they did more damage to my city than the enemy! And they do.. Every. Friggin. Time.

Well, there is a reason why fighting inside cities was prohibited in the Ares Convention - not that anyone payed much attention to that specific paragraph.

P.s. If you hire military to defend your city, town or factory complex literally from the inside, you should be aware of the consequences.
