Hey, I just discovered the insanity of the RAC2 rate of fire macro and it's ludicrous to have to play against. I saw that a while back in a press release piranha condemned the use of it. Are other macros still okay? For like UAC's and LBX's? Not trying to debate that they're useful since you have to facetank damage for longer, but are they bannable like the rac ban?

macros are allowed, other than the rac thing that was fixed other macros don't really offer any advantages

No. "Chainfire" macros don't give any actual advantage, it just looks cool and makes a lot of noise but spreads your damage more.

From what I understand the RAC2 thing was a straight up exploit or cheat and therefore a banable offense.

'was' an exploit, but no one ever got banned for it and PGI fixed it on the server

today the rac macro doesn't do anything

You aren't encountering the RACro - that has been patched a long time ago: https://mwomercs.com...2018-at-2pm-pdt
Macros aren't bannable, exploits are bannable. RACro was an exploit and the bans were issued for its' use prior to the fix.

RAC macro exploited a spin up/down bug which is why it was considered an exploit, macros aren't bannable by themselves. You are perfectly free to chain fire 6 AC2s if you like, and to experience the awesome ghost heat penalty as your 'Mech turns into slag ;)

Exactly.

Patched long ago.

I bet the OP is being told this from people that don't really understand/know what is going on in MWO. Usual case of where these things come from.

Was there a time when Gauss ammo actually exploded like regular ammo? In a QP match, some guys were talking about how GR exploded more 'cause of keeping its ammo there for crit-padding and someone else said that Gauss ammo explodes and does damage.

Gauss Ammo doesn't explode and never has, as far as I know. The weapon itself may explode an cause damage to your mech if crit, though.

Yeah, I was under the impression that Gauss ammo would get destroyed but never exploded and caused damage to the structure. Gauss Rifles do explode violently and cause damage. But that argument in QP was funny as hell.

Nope. No explosion. Thats why gauss ammo is often used to crit pad the gauss.

And the total lack of accuracy resulting from spreading your shots over so much time. :P

No.

Gauss ammo does not explode like all other ammo. Thus you always crit-pad the Gauss with it.

Usual quick play nincomp0ops have no idea.

Maybe, just maybe, these were talking about Battletech by HBS, because there Gauss ammo can explode.

i usually split my ac2s into 2 groups and fire one with a small delay so they interleave. its more for heat management than anything.

HBS's Battletech had exploding Gauss ammo but the Goose Waffle didn't explode. I think it was fixed 'cause I occasionally play vanilla BT using the Heavy Metal DLC and I haven't any exploding Gauss ammo. Just destroyed ones. The mods fixed this, however.

But no, they were specifically talking about MWO.
