Just wanted to encourage every one to use the new LFG - Looking For Group. If you have units spend some time running open groups. And if you are a single person spend some time joing groups and playing with others. This is a nice new feature that should be used :)

Which PGI hides in a awful UI.

Did that make sense? This feature should be on the foreground.

We're supposed to see a UI refresh soon. Russ is talking about a new mechlab either on the 21st patch or in May.

I hope new mechlab will be in reality the old mechlab back from beta. Srsly what was wrong with that one? Why did they change to this mess?

agreed, this is a good feature that can be leveraged by both sides to mutual benefit.

Oh! I happen to know the answer to that question!

It all goes back to the CB build. Back then the UI for the game was static. It even had a static width and height and didn't run in full screen, but the matches themselves did run full screen. So they rewrote the whole UI, this was while IGP was the publisher and generally jerking the game around.

They never went back to refining the UI because Russ polled the community after the IGP split and the community said "MOAR content! MOAR mechs! MOAR MAAAAAAPPPPPSSSSS!" And then PGI got caught up in CW, trying to rebuild player trust after the disaster that was 2013 and they haven't gotten back to game refinements, for their staff right now, CW is mostly "all hands on deck"

But they seem to think they've got a handle on CW right now and Russ is hinting at Mechlab changes and some other things not related to CW. I think they're trying to knock a few things off before trying a Steam launch late this summer (so Russ said in the 2nd or 3rd Town Hall)

Adding yourself to LFG doesn't automatically use you to fill an existing group, does it? It just means that those who have made a group already and want some additional players to fill out the slots, can add people from the LFG list.

Some people think this group feature makes it more difficult to join games. Is that true? Is there any documentation for this feature?

There are two types of groups. Quickplay group que, and Faction play que (theres also solaris but dont worry about that one). Quickplay group que was a mode similar to solo QP but with groups, the larger the group the lower tonnage allowance per player. Then there is FP que which requires you to have 4 mechs set in a dropdeck and you have to pick a side in the current conflict. The quickplay group que is pretty much dead now, except like friday evenings in north america or something. If you group up and que for group QP you will probably never find a game. Faction play group que still has players and there are games going off all the time, but you should familiarize yourself with the faction play mode as there are more things to consider before playing it.

It was briefly a very long time ago. But then for most of MWOs history it was a group vs group only mode. Min 2 players max 12. There are many factors leading up to GQs death, elite seal clubbing groups may have been a small part of it, but for the most part imo it's the fact that it's the most difficult mode to build games with a dropping population. You require the right combinations of groups to set up a 12v12 drop. FP on the other hand allows solo players to join, so they can always fill in the gaps between group size combinations to build a drop. Eventually people started giving up on GQ because of increasing wait times, some quit the game, many started playing FP instead which delayed the death of that mode further

Oh ok I understand now. Did the QP group que used to be part of the just normal solo or group que and people starting getting stomped and cried about it? When this is a team game. Or was that the baby seal clubbing thing I have heard about?

If I understood correctly, the Group Queue was meant to be a separate thing altogether.

There's NASCAR Queue, Group Queue and FW. In Group Queue, the tonnage restrictions are based on how many people are there in your group, which creates a self-balancing act and it's good. But the problem is that since you are only allowed to play against other groups and only groups being able to fill the empty slots, the wait times got bigger as there really was no need to play this when FW offers good rewards, 4 mechs per player and has no tonnage restrictions.

If PGI allowed solos from NASCAR queue to opt into Solo and Group queue, there could be a decrease in wait times but they won't.

But, it would be nice if we had some kind of UI element that showed us all the teams in QP group que and how many people are in each team so, that we know if we need to trim some players from our group so that we can get a match.

I am sorry to say that, but changes of UI are not a matter of days or weeks. When it comes to PGI, such changes take months or years to implement.
