I do like the idea of resurrecting MA as a PC game and hope these guys manage to finish it.

I'm not keen to revisit it as a game, though. Too simplistic.
Good on the devs though for recreating it. Takes skill and commitment to be able to do it.

That's why it's not a BattleTech game but an arcade bastardization. If a game is supposedly set in a universe but throws out all of the fiction that makes that universe what it is, then is it actually set in that universe?
MechAssault might be a fine mecha game, but it is a horrible BattleTech game.

Obviously stuff like the mech designs, weapons, locations, etc that appear in Mechassault are still intellectual property of the BT universe. If a game company tried to use any of those assets without licence then they would get sued pretty hard, thus MA is in fact a BT-themed game even if it's not anything like a PC MW game.

Was there enough in that game to really be triggered about? It was just meh - Mechwarrior has always been a little bit more complex than the competition and without that little bit extra, what is there? Well I suppose there's Mech Assault.

Put it on mobile four years ago, and you can make a lot of money. A serious amount of money. I do however think that today, this window may have already passed because the field is crowded.
There are quite a few mech games in mobile that played like Mechassault even today, but only one made it to the big leagues and destroyed the competition.

They will also get sued by guess who HG. Hence no one will touch the franchise. Its in toxic territory.

All that product has to do is either;
Not include unseen; the brain dead, easy, lowest effort strategy.
Or
Change depiction
Both strategies have worked.
I know you don't want to hear this; but battletech isn't more popular because it isn't that good and it's very tone deaf in places.

This makes it easier to develop your own IP. No IP is popular enough to make it irreplaceable especially when you are not that popular in the first place, or that good. But even if you have good and well known franchises, it hasn't stopped their replacement, in fact, franchises are surprisingly replaceable.

It's the IP's limited appeal that makes devs cringe.
HG can't sue anyone not infringing on their designs = just don't use unseen if you're scurred.

I know the point you're making but I wouldn't exactly call the indiscriminate threat threat from nuclear, biological and chemical weapons "better" than pointing a gun and shooting a single person 500 yards away every 30 seconds.
Medicine on the other hand, now that is something I'd most certainly say was better than what we had in the civil war era.
