I think that a lore-based feature that is long overdue would be to display Clan 'mechs with their Inner Sphere code names depending on the player's set faction. For an example, a player that is part of an Inner Sphere faction gets see see the Timber Wolf's name displayed as Mad Cat or the the Kit Fox's name as Uller. Players aligned with the Draconis Combine get a bonus when they see the Mad Dog/Vulture; they get to see Hagetaka.

If the player is part of a Clan faction, they get to see all of the actual Clan names of 'mechs.

I went with factions instead of 'mech chassis origin because the Clans did use Star League-era Inner Sphere chassis like the Atlas and the Black Knight in their second-line units, as well as acquiring Inner Sphere 'mechs as salvage throughout the Invasion. It would make sense that their targeting computers would identify other Clan 'mechs by their actual Clan names.

Please, developers, make this a thing in 2017!

Immersion? In my MWO? That's blasphemous!

I think there has to be some more fundamental lore/immersion stuff that has to happen before this feature, like TRO entries in game and more basic lore. Otherwise there's a lot of potential for confusing the hell out of players who aren't waist deep in Battletech/Mechwarrior knowledge.

But it would be a nice thing, eventually. The Inner Sphere is so much better at naming mechs.

Excuse me.

May I present the evidence of Cauldron-Born (Awesome, and adopted by all Clans save the Smoke Jaguars, who don't deserve their own opinion anyways :P), vs. Ebon Jaguar (pmuch the worst 'Mech name in all of 'Mech namedom, and there are some real stinkers out there, man...)?

As someone who hasn't played any battle tech and knows nothing of lore i dont want a mech to have 4 different names depending on what I'm piloting. I dont want someone shouting out "Ryoken" or whatever its name is when its identified and known to me as "storm crow".

Except people already do call mechs what they're used to calling them from previous titles. I get plenty of people calling the Warhawk the Masakari, Timber Wolf the Mad Cat, and the Dire Wolf the Daishi. Making more players know the names through an IG system won't change that.

lore wise makes sense, but for new players may bring about confusion,
having to remember nick names for a dozen or so mechs, added in target calling,

Ex
Person A(Vet)= "G6 TimberWolf Weak LT,
Person B(Green)= looks, Presses ® sees MadCat, "not Seeing a Timber! only a MadCat,
Person A= "(insert Comments that New Players dont know things and they should learn before playing)

I wonder if this came from the "tiff" I was part of this morning.
A player started a piece about the Vulture. I finally had enough trying to go back and forth figuring out WTF the thing is and pointed out there is no Vulture in game. Well this did not go over well. In reality both parties were right and wrong. I would be happy being able to see the names more easily so that I do not need to go to smurfies or the packs to figure it out. More easily means in the game while I am playing, using mechlab or the in game store.

I suggested something like this before and I think it should be a toggle in the options for lore-nerds like me that want it that way.

i like the Name Ebon-Jaguar better then Cauldron-Born,

Matchmaker seems to be on vacation at the moment, so new players still in their cadet bonus are facing T1-comp-veterans, but we should worry that a new guy, that does not know 1 name cannot remember 2 names because it could drive them away? Well, i don't know...

Considering how squishy those EBJs are in MWO, they do not deserve the name Cauldron-Born, which was named after nigh-unkillable Irish zombies.

I think they could at least make this as menu article "IS code names ON".

Truth is I dont know any Clan name at all, all those Timber and I dont know what Wolves and other same-like crap, it alway will be Mad-Cat, Uller, Masakari, Vulture... ;)

@OP
Nope. To confusing for people who are not familiar with the lore. Also when you want to make things realy confusing please add the german translations. Every Clan mech should have at least 4 names Posted Image

Also I can allready imagne the confusin when people call out different names for mechs in VoIP. "Shoot the Uller you idiot" "What is an Uller? There is a Kitfox running around!"

1. Guys, do you realize that this thread is from 2016?

2. Having an option to use IS codenames for Clan 'Mechs would be nice for immersion - the problem is that there is exactly "0" immersion MWO ...
