I' m starting to hate this mech. It begins at the building screen: it' s always to big a compromise to my wishes compared to other mechs I own. Back in the days they did their job well but I just don't understand them anymore. What' s the use of them? Maybe you can post your favorite builds?? I own the 3m,1e,2n and 5m.
THX.

I love the Griffin. It's one of my favorite mechs. They are fast, XL friendly, and very brawly. Here are some builds I use:

GRF-3M: Snub-Nose PPC / 4x SRM 6 / XL 300
SPARKY: 6x Med Pulse Laser / XL 325
GRF-2N: 4x SRM 6 + Artemis / XL 300
GRF-5M: 2x Medium Laser / 3x AC/2 / XL 270

If you don't like XL they can all be easily rebuild using LE with some sacrifices.

Enjoy!

I play them like hunchbacks. Use lfe or std and you can dead side on the 1n. They can brawl with mls and srms or mrms pretty well.

GRF-2N

Arm armour comes in handy.

The issue with the Griffin an why it sucks is simple - PGI. After Engine Desync the Griffing a 55T mech has dump truck mobility. PGI gave it a minor buff, very minor last year. However other 55T mechs like the Wolverine have over 30% BETTER mobilty... And thus actually feel like a Medium Mech. The GFN feels like a 75T mech.

So yeah - they USED to be good. But like 100s of other mechs in MWO - Engine Desync killed them and their niche/fun.

Used to be good.
Too big for it's purported weight. Not mobile enough for its purported weight class.
I blame the ECM variant.
And PGI.

I have one Griffin which is the Ares running LFE 280, 3 JJ, 4 MPLs and 2 SRM6+A with 3t of ammo and 12 DHS. I use it very rarely and it's ok at best. Better to use something like the Dervish honestly. At least the Dervish has a narrower profile.

Probably a pretty accurate statement concerning the 2N. Those things were at the head of the 4xSRM6 meta on the IS side for a while back on the day.

And even then, the 2N was still an enthusiast's 'Mech -- performers picked Clan or something else.

Yeah, the Griffin is one of those chassis lost in a dev blind spot, with its feeble quirks and physical limitations. Sparky had brief resurgence with H PPCs long ago. I occasionally scumbag in a 1N(P) 3xSSRM to be that guy, but that's it.

There are 100s of mechs that fit into that since Desync. An awfully big blindspot.

Only the -2N offers something unique with its 4 high SRM hard points + JJs + ECM. The others have builds that are better on other mechs.
I can still have some fun with Sparky and the -5M though.

Yeah, it’s too bad the engine de-sync isn’t dialled down a bit. Even getting half of it back would be an improvement given some of the newer weapons systems and/or existing weapons ‘adjustments’ in the game.

Good hunting,

Did the de-quirking coincide with desync? I can't even remember anymore. All I know is that the Victor, Gargoyle and Executioner woyld be ridiculously endless fun if they moved like mediums, but it just wasn't to be.

Yep, that was when the Skill Maze came in - all the same patch (de-sync/skill maze)

You can also do this for some fun: GRF-5M
