I think this could be overcome with a way to test builds before committing to purchase. So you put a mech together and can quickly test it in the training grounds before clicking the purchase button. I think something like this would be welcomed.

Players having the ability to use some kind of mech-building sandbox and test their builds in the training grounds would be great fun. Allowing them to save a template and then being able to apply it to their mechs in the mechbay would be nice since they then know which components they need to save money for and they get a sense of achievement when they save enough. Having templates also means that users with more than one build for a particular chassis can swap between them without the manual component dragging and armor tweaking.

If you mean the testing grounds, rather than the academy, you can. I just took an Atlas in the store, replaced the AC20 with a HMG and took it into the testing grounds. Plus IIRC I have saved build codes in the mech lab/store so I could duplicate a build that I had tested in the store, and apply it after I bought the mech.

If I am misinterpreting what you are talking about, sorry and please ignore.

For the past few years I have stopped playing but occasionally check back for anything worth while. I personally quit after the very poor talent tree system was put in. At first I thought,

" Huh this could be neat."

But very quickly turned into a major grind fest. And as someone with a lot of different mechs I didn't want to have to play 20+ hours on 1 mech type just to get and try out a full talent tree build. And if you didn't like it, you where kinda SOL. Spend more cash to reset, more grind. It wasn't fun.

Like yeah I get having respec needed a redo fee but the tree in it's self should be a 1 time grind for your pilot. If you spend 20 hours in a raven and suddenly go to an atlas your pilot should be like

" Where is my shoot button again?"

My next issue was lack of team work. Even now I still see plenty of people complain about nascar issue. And I've been saying to my friends a lot they need a system that rewards players for working as a lance and not death balling in a circle 24/7.

Take the battlefield 2142 squad and commander system. The commander ultimately had control of map utilities such as UAV and artilary. But people who worked as a squad and listened and played with their group got rewarded with their kit being upgraded. In this game it can come as addition free UAV or art for your commander to use on the field around that lance.

The only real issue I see with this is with deathball is everyone is working together so why split?

Reward for side objectives. Have a reason for them being there. The team that controls or claims them will get the advantage in combat and discourage the ball of nascar.

Lastly the final issue I have is the bloody pinpoint accuracy on almost every weapon that is not a heavy AC, LBX or LRM. Too many times I would start a match, peak a hill and get insta gibbed by any or all long ranged weapons within 3 seconds. I personally feel at least torso mounted weapons should require a little more skill to use because they are fixed to the body. Arm weapons yeah makes perfect sense. But maybe have additional reticals for torso mounted weapons on right and left sides that are slightly off main sights that makes you have to re-adjust your aim for a proper hit. But that's just me.

I joined DSx, filled out my primary drop deck, then dropped a bunch of cash when they switched up their drop decks and I needed the new mechs to keep playing with them.
Then got dropped from the group when they "restructured to be more competitive".
I haven't played since.
It's not that I don't want to, because I did enjoy the game, but I just get disgusted when I think about the time and money I wasted.

In short, I didn't quit because of the game, I quit because of my community experience.
I do sometimes think about hitting that download button again and hitting the solo queue, but communication and teamwork is so much more rewarding.

Mech bay slots is what stopped me from really diving into the game hard the first couple of times that I tried to get into it. With how many mechs are in the game, having 4 mech bays starting out and all that you're going to get unless you drop real money or dive into FP (and even then, the amount you get from FP is not even close to enough) is just stupid.

Throw in the silly amount of cbill farming that is needed for buying a mech, outfitting it in something that isn't trash (oh god those engines), and skilling it up and I can see why people just walk away from the game without really giving it a chance.

Another thing to remember is that Mechwarrior is a niche game. It's a slow paced mech shooter, which doesn't appeal to a lot of people out there. This is not including the amount of customization that you can do, and there's absolutely nothing helping noobs to get a grasp on it.

Again, it doesn't help that, at least to the new players that I've talked to, mechs are WAY overpriced. You can buy full on 'AAA' games for the price of a single bundle. Even half off they stretch the definition of 'microtransaction'. They're also priced by weight, which boggles my mind as to why this is the case.
