Hi guys, I have been thinking maybe they could introduce New Mech Variants with a New Quirk: Reduced Weapon Tonnage.
It could be an Universal quirk or Weapon specific for Specific Weapons, For Example an IS Large Laser Tonnage Reduction by 1 Ton, so it would only be 4 Tons for that specific Mech.
Just wondering has anyone thought about this quirk before?

Well, there sort of is a quirk for that.
...Clan mechs.

@CFC Conky, are you saying Clan Mechs are better than Inner Sphere Mechs? I was thinking this Quirk can be for both Clan and IS mechs, but needs some balance considerations.

I'd rather see the IS LBX-20 and H.Gauss reduced by 1 slot to 10.
We can't crit. split and we're stuck with standard engines if we choose to take one.

Well actually a Quirk to reduce Slots might not be a bad idea, lets talk more about this as well.

Nah, I was just pulling your leg. Clan weapons are generally lighter and take up less slots, which is what your proposed quirks would do for IS stuff. Implementation could get tricky since IS mechs are usually more robust so having weapon weight parity with Clans could have a negative effect on game balance (such as it is

@CFC Conky, yes but I was thinking if they decide to finally add in more Mech Variants (not new mechs), this New Quirk might make certain Medium or Heavy Mechs have more options adding variety to the game as dynamic as it is now. I dare not claim to be a balance expert but was thinking if anyone else think this might be something to be seriously considered.

I feel like this might be getting a little too weird even by the crazy standards we have now.
Also consider that quirks like cooldown, heat, ammo, etc. kinda sorta achieve a similar effect as a tonnage reduction in that it increases the amount of bang you get for the same amount of buck. Those quirks are a bit easier to explain using pseudoscience, like for example we can pretend that a mech has a better cooling system built in so the weapon generates lower heat (TT has the "Improved Cooling Jacket" quirk for this).

Yeah well, just some food for thought. Not too certain what plans PGI have for MWO for the next few years currently.

It's not really a difficult explanation:
It's a semi-intergrated weapon and a sub-set of the necessary components are hardwired to the internal structure during production. The result is a decrease in weight when mounting that specific weapon but it takes twice the usual time to repair and some weapons (such as those mounted in pod space on Omni-platforms and handheld weapons) cannot take this quirk.
