The sequel to 2002's Mechwarrior 4 is finally here, is it worth the wait? Well despite the clickbait title, while it's absolutely not worth the wait and pretty awful on almost every level, they did at least remember to make it fun to play. So there's that.

New moon biome

New game mode Beach Head

New environmental heat

New quest missions

7 new Mechs tied to quest missions

New story missions.

Some things free with upgrade patch and some in DLC content only.

No nothing new except that you could see these things in motion now. Not sure I like the Artillerie. When playing from the first person it will be quite hard to navigate through those, depening on the mech. Some cockpits don't have that much of a decent view so you might not see something comming from the side. Hope they will be shown on the radar too.

Also not sure about the infantrie. They decided to go with lots of infantrie over viewer more intelligent ones in terms of AI. I wonder will those infantries be grouped like in the TT or will they be singular people running around?

While it might be the wrong time periode its not of the table that this might be a good basis to mod them in or add them with a Clan DLC/patch later on.

Will the DLC be free or for sale and will ultimate edition owners need to purchase it?

According to their Website the DLC has to be purchased but there will also be a free update.

Question is what will be the prize. Frankly I don't see much that is worth paying for.
I am mostly interested in the free career mode and I think I saw a mod that can do that for free.
Career path and blueprint/quirk unlocks...well there is a mod for that.
Expanded Innersphere map with more warzones etc....there are allready a lot so not that importend
New mechs...exept for the Marauder II not that interesting.
New weapons...interesting but I think there are mods again
New biome and a new mission type...thats interesting.
It was also mentioned more handcrafted mission surounding the hero mechs. The story mission of MW5 where ok but nothing that WOW-ed me. Hope they learned a bit.

So overall the price has to be right to make this one interesting for me as lots of stuff can be done via mods or isn't that interesting and I am scaptical.

The one against bugs, the one of the T-Whatever Series, the world killing one, mh wait thats an exterminatus... or the mech? ^_^

As for the Mech....isn't that thing stuffed to the brim with losttech that isn't even in the game?

make it PvP, enable the VR, and work on melee PLEASE!
we will buy mechs, biomes, missions, and bolt ons, or something.
the modders will hopefully continue to make it good.

MWO is the PvP option. MW5 will only ever be PvE, at least as long as MWO lives, and I suspect that MWO will get dragged along at least until Microsoft cancels their license, which sounds like won't happen for 5 more years, at least.

Unlikely MWO will be able to keep the necessary player base needed to sustain any kind of matches that long without substantial changes to the game and that is more than unlikely since most of PGIs manpower has been / is working with the Unreal-Engine for the last couple of years now. What I am afraid of is that PGI (Microsoft) generally doubts the profitability of a multiplayer-based tactical simulation (shooter) in the BT-universe. Ouch, think I gotta heart-stroke writing the last couple of words 'bout the digital future of my most beloved space opera ...

While it would be possible to have an "MWO 2.0" based on MW5 it would require a lot of rewriting of the gameplay and introducing the entire codeing for onlineplay along with new server side programs and maybe even servers.

So theoreticaly its possible, practictly I highly doubt it.
Haveing said that...I wonder what would be more work:
- Updateing current MWO with all the new tech like Raytraceing, DirectX12, Vulcan, etc.
- Transfering MWO to a new version of Cryengine
- Rebuilding MWO on the basis of MW5

or would it be similar complicated no matter what you do. I guess this is a question for one of the guys from PGI that actualy works on the codeing/development side of things.

While I lack the technical / programming expertise to judge what way would be less complicated, I highly doubt (hr- / organisational perspective) PGI would be willed to "engine-swap" back to a new iteration of the CryEngine after having worked (and having achieved some "expertise") with UE now.
