So I'm back after a while out and I'm looking at assault mechs.

Right now I'm pinned between MCII-1 and 2 (4 SRM6 looks mean), and the Marauder II (4L stripping the stealth stuff and going brawler with 2 gauss and an erppc) or the MAD-5A (2x ERPPC and 1 gauss, go figure I like what I like)

Basically I wanna brawl in a marauder inspired chassis but don't wanna waste 14mil if it's just gonna be an assault sized coffin.

TBH you should be looking at Scorch.
MCII-2 is not bad but somewhat fragile.
Gauss + ERPPC is a sniping loadout, not brawling loadout.
I can tell you I had some reasonable success with a MRM80 MAD4-HP, but that build fits on your regular MAD-9M just fine (WITH the ECM, yes)

Honestly speaking, the best marauder is the original marauder.
The rest have some drawbacks. Personally I'd recommend you not to touch MAD-IIC or MAD-II.
Scorch is great, but it is a glass cannon and costs a bunch of MC.
MC-2 is very similar to scorch, but at least it doesn't require MC.
But I think you have a problem with definition of brawling. Srm's and gauss are very different weapons, so I cannot even imagine what you expect from a mech.
