Seriously, I try to go play it ever so often and it seems like there is never anyone in the queue. Does anyone ever play?

Some do, but its a tiny group and you have to be lucky to find the time they are dropping. Check the leaderboards and maybe contact them directly to ask for their times. Other than that, S7 is pretty deserted.
Of course you can try during the kickoff events and/or at the end of a season when many people just try to get their 25 matches per division to get ranked on the leaderboards and get the basic rewards.

You can sync drop with friends which is a nice way to get the game against or I suspect you could with a group of four total friends.
It's a lot of fun.

I often will peak in and just check the que - if someone is in it I'll drop in (and then get crushed but have a good time doing it mind you)

There's only a handful of people that play it and they tend to run very specialized builds and be fairly good at it .

As much fun as it might seem to be to be repeatedly destroyed by someone who does that... well, it's obviously not. Hence why almost no one actually plays it. I have no idea who thought the game mode would be a good idea, but as far as I am aware, it has never worked out.

The only time it really gets any traction is during the events where you get a few hundred MC for playing a handful of games. Otherwise there's no purpose for most people to play it at all, unless you really like losing a lot.

Many thought the game mode would provide a way to drop as a FFA against several opponents. Most did not dream that PGI would throw assaults in with lights in the current divisions. Tis like PGI does not really play their game, not many are very skilled at it.

I mean, if PGI cut down the season length to two months (or maybe just one) and promoted information about the end-of-season rewards harder, there would probably be enough activity to keep the mode going .

7 bins is just too many for even a larger number of players to populate.

It is enough when the season launch even is going on and a **** ton of occasional players are chasing the rewards.

Even then, we get like 2 players per division instead of more to be matched. We'd be better off with 3 or at most 4 bins. Can give up hope for 2v2 mode.

solaris is a dumpsterfire.
most players, which have been very vocal about wanting to have a solaris mode, have been rekt so hard they never got back to the mode, even after seasons resets.

That sounds... oddly relevant to the recent changes :P

As a player with a good score on the leader boards, I say that this game mode is a great one, yes it is challenging and sometimes you lose, but you only lose a lot if you need improving. I like the way that even if both mechs are equally matched, there is still a chance for it to go either way, despite the experience or skill of said players.

I play Solaris 7 sometimes and I have noticed there is next to no player base consistently playing it. This is a problem that can only be solved by exposure of the game. Mech Warrior Online is one of the best games in the world, next to World of Warcraft and the likes. I believe exposure of this game would yield the player base that it needs. I really think if a few more people had picked up a PC instead of a PS4 or XBOX, this game and Solaris 7 as well, would have really taken off.

So to answer your question, no hardly anyone plays it and... if you don't have a topped mech build that is A1 in a competitive sense... then going into a match is suicide. You have to be good at the game and you have to care about the game and it's quirks, the little bits of extra goodies that you find. There is mystery in finding these builds and once you find it, there is no going back. Once you find it you have the best mech and that's what it's all about. If you don't play S7 in a competitive sense and get a few wins you should be ashamed.

This statement is so blatantly false as to border on the absurd.

This game has massive flaws with bugs, progression, content, graphics and long term player goals. You must not play many multi-player games. MWO is not best in anything, in fact it is massively deficient in core game play fundamentals.

Or very subjective. The inner eight-year-old in all of us still goes gaga over the giant mecha even if the game itself isn't very remarkable.
