As the title says I haven't played since 2017. Thinking about getting back into the game, but remembering how long it took to grind and master the game, kind of on the fence. Is the game worth getting back into (Obviously this is subjective)? What is the current meta? I left right after Laser spam gave way into pop-tart Gauss/PPC round 2.0. How do my beloved assault mechs fare? Anyways, is it worth trying again, or should I leave for good.

If you hadn't played much back then... start fresh and reap the benefits of the cadet/learner bonuses.
If you have a bunch of money/mechs/etc... just hop back in and play. You might have even got some refunds from various game changes over the years (don't remember when that all happened).

Seems like meta is pretty averaged out by various counters. I don't see a TON of any one thing tearing things up.
Lots of the older mechs seem to simply not work as well as newer stuff.... but that's how the timeline went... mechs improved.
Depending on what assaults you have... possibly still good. My Awesomes were never great... they almost aren't worth playing these days.

Because of a recent tier reset... everyone was ranked the same and you had awful players mixed with tournament level guys, but people are starting to separate out into their skill tiers.

The good news: rule of three went out the window and now you can just master a single mech. The bad news... mastering that single mech takes 2/3rd of the time three variants took before.

What is the current meta?
Seems to be back towards lasers.

How do my beloved assault mechs fare?
Varies by mech.

Worth. Keep in mind that matchmaking is in a bit of a jumble right now, after a reset of everyone's PSR and new PSR change conditions. A lot of players are currently in Tier 3 and only starting to move up or down from there.
