I can imagine this wouldn't work on a more experienced pilot but there is something worryingly gratifying about making the inexperienced hide pointlessly

Answer is easy. A mechs have 2 cool down and sitting in one place for a not dps build is quite stupid. 2nd getting hit by tag, is standard followed up by 36+ atms these days. So getting in cover and than check the red load ou,t is better than taking 72 dmg and than go in cover.
