Ok, I finally did this. Finally got sick of hearing warhorns so I created a sound mod to remove them.

All horns currently in the game are replaced. As new ones come along I'll remove them also. Note if you run warhorns on your mechs they will be silent as well. ALL horns are silent regardless of which mech plays it.

readme file tells you where to copy the file.

There's tons of sound mods out there. So many people are running Haven Kendricks sound mod for both mech and weapon sounds and the command wheel. It's really popular and as with the warhorn mod it does not do any harm nor create any benefit. PGI seemed to be tollerating sound mods.

You will not get any confirmation from PGI on that. They have never taken a clear position on that outside tollerating thousands of players using them.

Just because PGI are tolerant doesn't mean they will never act. It's a risk you take when violating the CoC and it's spelled out in writing so there's no excuses if the hammer comes. I would hate for Bacon to be banned uninformed.

The actual problem is that warhorns are kind of a joke on a level above/beyond the actual game and as funny as they might be (I giggle myself, sometimes, on some warhorns), they kill immersion. Brutally.

There should be an option in the settings that one can disable them.
This would make everybody perfectly happy. You can use them if you want and you can choose to turn them off, but only for yourself, without any effect on others.

But that would require programming a boolean value and checking it for being true at exactely one place in the code, so oooohh...

Besides all of that, what's peoples problem with warhorns? it's not the first time I have seen people disliking warhorns and want them muted. no offense, just curious, because I really dont get it.

IIRC Years ago Russ has said you could use sound mods. Was on some youtube update videos, but they wouldn't endorse, or support any because the ones people kept asking him about were using mw2 sounds which PGI doesn't own. Don't know if those worked different than this one though.

And the issue with warhorns is they are just a distraction for some. It doesn't really add anything to the game for some and is just more noise that gets in the way of comms or in game warnings. There really should just be an option to turn them off. Also an optional quick kill sound that only you can hear when you get a kill.

I think I have never felt that level immersion.
Maybe because I am not really into battletech. To me this is just a mech shooter, but then again the way MWO plays with all the nascar and stuff, it's not really much of simualtion and more of an arena shooter.

That sounds like a circus or bad cartoon.
Most warhorns are as funny then this:

I just don't want to be forced to listen to them. they are annoying as hell to me.

if you want to run one and hear it that is fine, don't make the rest of us have to hear it.

thing is, sound mods do not modify any of the MWO supplied files. Its a completely new file.

Most of the older warhorns were great and sounded thematic but as the game progressed they got more and more trolling.. and some are down right annoying to listen to.

I feel the op wants to remove them go for it.. for me i just ignore 99% and enjoy the old IS and Clan themed ones myself. these newer ones i'd not care if they went.

Interrupts music. Sounds annoying. Isn't interesting.

To me the game would be boring without warhorns. You do you though. As for removing them being legal or not JGx DATA has changed the sound of both warhorns and weapons, so removing the sound shouldn't cause problems.

Like others have said, modifying sounds is technically against the TOS, but PGI doesn't enforce it
