You don't need a lock to fire them. If your opponent is staring at you like a wallflower, aim at them and fire. The missiles will go to where you aim your crosshairs. It doesn't matter if they have ECM or Stealth armor, they will get hit.

Yeah, but they'll need to keep two things in mind...

1.) If the Enemy Mech moves, then the Missiles will miss their target.

2.) If they wish to use Non-Locked Fire to hit an Enemy Mech which is moving, they will need to point at the ground location where their target is moving to in order to fire and hit successfully.

...and keeping that in mind can be very tricky.

Dumbfire on LRMs has very little use outside of extreme close range (where you don't want to be) and against targets that are already immobile for other reasons (and are therefore about to get savaged by your team anyway). In other words, it's borderline useless.
Bring a ******* TAG and an Active Probe, get your own locks and it'll work out much better.

The important thing about lock-on systems is that they use your arm reticle to lock on. Play with your arms unlocked and you can acquire or maintain targets while staying in motion. A parked LRM boat is usually a soon-to-be-dead LRM boat.

Maybe LRMs still work in lower Tiers, I do not know.

But my best advice, when it comes to LRMs, is: Learn to aim your guns and switch to direct-fire weapons. The higher you move up between Tiers, the less effective LRMs will be.
