Playing this game should require skill.
Arty does not...

Arty does require a bit of skill, as you can tell from all the low skill posters on here complaining about being penalized for bombing their team.

I agree consumables are a Cheat mechanic.. But PGI makes a ton of money off them and they are a cbill sink, can't see them going anytime soon..

I've hated these things since i joined MWO.

Consumables have been stupid since the beginning but PGI won't let them go, they don't like the player "economy" mostly because they refuse to allow purchase of cosmetics for inflated c-bill prices instead of just for MC.

What? No. Consumables are what separate the wheat from the chaff. The only problem is they cost a decent chunk of c-bills, they should cost something more easily obtainable - like PSR.

Not gonna happen, nor should it. The purpose of arty is to discourage deathballing. Used on a single mech is very inefficient. Used on a tightly packed group at a choke point is devastating, which is kinda the point.

Spread out, don't hug your teammates.

As much as they frustrate me too, they should stay. What Lobster said above^.

At this rate people will ask to have every aspect of the game removed until there is nothing left.

Consumables of all types have a part to play in MWO - makes me shudder to drop into a cockpit after I've been wrecked, to not see any being carried - folk are missing an important contribution to theirs and their drop mates chances of winning.

Incorrect, it is meant to discourage camping because deathballing requires movement, ie they can just step through the arty and avoid most of the damage in a deathball.
Either way, if you want to discourage deathballing, give us a mech/weapons that can do just that instead of stupid consumables that people spam for a c-bill tax. Exact same thing with UAVs/Consumables, give us equipment to mount to do this. Battletech already has artillery pieces AND coolant pods in lore, these consumables already exist without needing a tax.

If you don't like 'em now...in years previous, they could kill with head hits.

Two issues, if PGI would ever get around to addressing: strikes are a no-brainer and smoke is the same color regardless of user.

For issue #1, make a player's second strike deal half damage. For issue #2, friendlies see a different, colorblind-friendly smoke hue.

Nan, if PGI were to do an update it should be a flashing symbol on the map rather than smoke. There is 0 chance for an update though.

I believe this was PGIs stated reason for keeping them as they are a few years ago. Arty/Airstrike penalise mechs bunching up, whatever form that takes.

The game needs to have AOE damage/area denial mechanics like Arty to stop clumping and camping. They can be annoying, but without them people would be whining about other issues instead.

It would be better to see some other mechanics to serve the same purpose. Many people have requested to get proper artillery weapons on mechs. But the problem with that is it'll be another major skew loadout that often won't be needed, so that'll then cause whining for other reasons.

Arty isn't perfect, but solving this issue is not simple.

They also thought that lower gravity and floatier JJs would make poptarts better so just because they say something doesn't mean they actually understand the implications of their actions. Actually I'd say that is the story of PGI: making changes without ever understanding the impact of it.
