This thread has been dead and gone for six years. Do you know what the mods do to such threads?
Artist's impression: Moderators ready to brain the zombie thread with a mech-sized entrenching tool

Weeeee necroposting.

What you have there is very much a short-to-midrange trading build. That is NOT a brawling build.
MRMs are midrange weapons that are good at brawling.
UAC10 is an unreliable midrange trading/DPS weapon.
ERML is a hot midrange trading weapon.
Here are some brawling builds for the Protector to compare:
2LB10 + 2SRM6a https://mech.nav-alp...#bde38318_ON1-P
AC20 + 2SRM6a + 3MPL https://mech.nav-alp...#b6ff8be7_ON1-P
AC20 + MRM50 https://mech.nav-alp...#2a5471a5_ON1-P
HGauss + MRM40 https://mech.nav-alp...#3f6e81e1_ON1-P
There's other ways to do it, but if you're going to build a mech that you wish to brawl with:
- stay away from unreliable UACs. Use standard AC and LBX (for clan, use only LBX)
- HGauss is plausible, but generally not preferred in a pure brawling sense. Still very strong.
- use SRMs or MRMs, but not too many MRMs because they can get too hot to brawl with
- use short duration lasers, or the lasers with the least heat or highest DPS
- SNPPC and cERPPC can be used to augment burst damage
- avoid using IS XL on most chassis (some can still do very effectively)

I agree as I've had a 2x UAC/20 mech with Jam chance reduction dual jam on me on the first shot the moment I got into brawl range. It was freaking ugly.
I see MRMs as mostly a supplementary brawl weapon that can trade/poke. For mechs that are not blessed with godlike hardpoints, adding an MRM40 to what's already there can help with damage numbers, but I find SRMs to be more reliable for quicker kills.
SRMs and LBX are surprisingly good against light mechs. There are many times where I've literally blown away 50%-100% of a light mech with one Alpha from my 2x LB20 4x SRM Scorch. Most of the time one alpha will make them lose a leg or kill them outright and it's pretty easy to aim compared to a pinpoint weapon.
This fact just makes me sad because the IS LB20 is one crit too big to be good and using an AC/20 just isn't the same when paired with SRMs, especially when doing alphas against moving targets.

Necro-Posts are considered un-constructive, because the game has undergone so many changes since its inception. If you feel a topic should be discussed and there is not already a recent thread about it, please open a new one.
Since there is already some very good contemporary information after the necro, I split this into a new topic, so you can go on.
Also, I'm totally going to steal this.

Someone called the Gravedigger?
