What are your thoughts on a Flying Spider or Mist Lynx?
Matt and Daeron are asking for new variants. I thought I'd go too far and ask for a new game mechanic. It's not that revolutionary of an idea, but I would love to try it. See pics attached.
I'm using the Spider because it can equip the most JJs (12). Ideally, I'd like a clan alternative to Inner Sphere stealth armour.
Just get to a high location and double tap the spacebar and start hovering, being able to change direction while in the air.
Features:
- Introduces several new roles. Recon and laying down arty/air strikes, providing locks when behind enemy team and can harass from while over top a brawl.
- Player won't be too high to encounter too many map issues.
- Introduces a new support role.
- Limits on time/damage flying mech can do (like heat limits on stealth armour when active)
- Great role for a team commander, lone wolf or support role.
I might not be the first one to ask for Land/Air Mechs, but I thought this would be a novel way of achieving it in the constraints of the dated MWO engine with limited modification.

considering how fast some one who decided to jump a bit to high currently gets lit up by everyone and their LRM back line I don't think this would be used for anything productive.

That would be more of a play style criticism, not a feature criticism.
As a light, LRMs don't usually get wasted on me while peeking unless it's Polar Highlands and I'm near the front line. When I have Radar Dep unlocked, have a 110~150km/h mech, ecm and/or stealth, and am far away, LRMs aren't as much of an issue.
Playing the light jumping mech on urban brawling maps is loads of fun, but most damage to my mech comes from lasers.
What would it take to make it work? Massive sensor range increase 1500km? 2000km? ECM range extended?

There's no real way to make this work. However, quad mechs on the other hand...

Why so much love for quad mechs? Sell me on the advantages

My point was this feature could not be used in a productive way. if you just had some guy floating up in the air He would be shot by everyone on the enemy team and have no cover.

I'd like to see it experimented with, a lot of players hardly look up, most UAVs don't get shot down in QP when brawling happens.
Personal experience says that I think a lot of players could make it work.
Playing a fully skilled out Spider 5V with 12 JJs and fully skilled out jump skills, I get a lot of utility out of it and if I'm far enough back or deep enough behind the enemy firing line they ignore me.
