FP has a different kind of meta to comp which doesn't play to their strengths.
In comp you only pilot a single mech per game. If you can only pilot assault mechs that's fine, another teammate who can only play in lights will play in matches you can't. They hyper-specialise for a single round of combat with a single loadout.
FP by virtue of drop decks requires you to be multi-role capable. Something they're not trained in. Comp players in FP struggle because they can't handle more than one task at a time. In FP you've got think on your feet, what has the enemy brought out? What have they got left? Individual waves aren't balanced so you have to adapt your tactics on the fly. Comp players perfer to be pampered and have time to re-evaluate each round (or have a clear advantage as in QP).
Comp teams don't play FP because there's no challenge in it, not because the players themselves can't play multiple roles. This is what happens when Comp teams play FP, it's just ridiculously boring (we were attacking too).
Here's another one, against what people consider to be a good FP team nowadays (from GN-X perspective, hence the defeat)
