How Are You Building Your Free Huntsman?

HMN-PRIME
Pretty standard Gaussvomit config with 25 shots and full armor. It might be a little toasty, but skill nodes could help with that. Gauss is on an arm so you have great range of motion.
I know the meta with HMN is to either do an SRM bomber with the Pakhet, ATM24, or ER PPC poptart.
But I have a Vapor Eagle PPC poptart that I think does it better. And my Pakhet is already specced out. So without changing omnipods I think this is a pretty good build.

Use the ERMLs to poke your head above cover and fire without exposing the majority of your mech.
The LBX-10 is good for sustained fire if you're redlining and don't have the opportunity to back-off and cool. But you can switch it to a UAC if you prefer (or regular if you don't want to risk the Jam).

Only 1 omnipod swap out, not bad!
Man, I keep shaving my rear armor lower as I get better but I still can't believe how low some of y'all drop it!

Truthfully I run more rear armour than that. That's the default rear allocation from MechDB. When I'm copying mechs from MWO I max the armour then strip off the "available" amount with out looking at front-rear allocation, but total amount is correct.
Not much more mind you, generalIy take just enough to get that '+1' from armour quirks. If you're in double digits you
I think the reason MechDB allocates so little is playstyle. Most players prefer to hide far away from the front and peek n' poke. Rear armour isn't so necessary there. If you're up front actually fighting you're also in a position that's easer to flank. It's either that or one of the people who set it up loves backstabbing and wants to bait people into giving him an easier time.
A few general rules:
If you're regularly dying to rear hits - add more armour
If you're regularly getting legged - add more armour
If you never run out of ammo - you're taking too much, lose some
If you regularly run out of ammo - you're taking too little, add some
It's ok to run out of ammo, or be legged / rear CT'd on occasion but it shouldn't be a regular thing. As you gain experience it's also a good idea to re-evaluate your build(s). As your aim improves you won't be wasting shots and may be able to strip ammo, same thing with armour when your situational awareness/evasive skills improve.

I'd rather run that on a Wolverine because the hitboxes are better (XL friendly) and you can pack a backup laser in the head. The quirks are better too. And more agility. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Wolverines poop all over Griffins.

Tried all 3 types of Missile Loadouts, not fun.
Tried a Ballistic, too hot.
Tried all Energy, too hot.
If I change pods, my first instinct is to use similar loadouts as I have on owned 50 ton Clanners so why?

I never had any of those issues for me a mech needs over 1.3 IS heat and 1.4-1.5 Clan heat depending on the mech.. This imo is a hit and run type so trying to face plant stuff with massive heat just doesn't work.
Personally like the huntsman over other 50 ton clan mechs because its very mobile has good hitboxes and can boat a good selection of weapons.. Its in my opinion a better version of the Arctic Wolf.
