It's little bit of a pain when this happens

Yes, actually. It's the same principle used since the beginning.

If there's an issue with the game that they are unable or unwilling to address, then it falls into the "feature" category. What you're experiencing is a "feature" of the game that disconnects you. Annoying, to be sure, but just chalk it up under everything else they've failed to address.

pgi can fix a lot of hard crashes by making full window the default setting and informing users that full screen can be crashy. thus if they want to run full screen, and it crashes, they know how to fix it. that or writing exception handlers to deal with modern video card power management features that didnt exist when the engine was programmed.

i have little experience with network related glitches as they seldom happen to me at all. maybe a couple times when there were some internet shenanigans going on, but those were temporary and neither pgi's nor my fault.

extending the rejoin window helps but that's a bandaid to fix a symptom, not the root cause.

MWO isn't a console game, everyone's hardware, resolution, and O/S patch level will differ. All they can do is give "best practice" advice, like the "avoid full screen, use full window" truism above. That, and letting people with cutting edge hardware know that they may have to back MWO off to earlier GPU standards.

Remember its more stable if you set it to use DirectX 9.

They already extended the time to reconnect to 4 minutes from 2 minutes. They can't answer for people with bad internet or bad computers like me.

This is an option. I go with DX 9 myself. Even in Final Fantasy 14, setting to DX 9 made the game run better.

I used to frequently get Display Driver crashes on older maps like Canyon Network, Rubellite, and any of the Classic maps. Before, it'd kill the whole game. Since switching to DX9, now it just blacks my screen for ~5-8 seconds (which still sucks.)

I actually haven't noticed this issue since the patch.

I don't get full screen crashes
or video driver crashes
I suggest those that do are riding the limits of their power supplies

Most crashes are unhandled exceptions
Shoddy programming imo

I've read on here, that if you switch to dx9 it lowers the crashing.. I've not tried it yet but it might be worth trying.

It does, running dx9 since i started playing a couple months ago and have not had a single crash.

I switched to DX9 last night and played and found far more stuttering. I rarely get crashes before using DX11 so I think I'll switch it back. I thought maybe I'd have some performance improvements but nope. So it's going to depend on your card and computer. The biggest cause of crashes I had in the past was running Full Screen mode vs Full Windowed mode. The former crashed when alt-tabbing but not the latter.

I play with i5 9th-gen and GTX1660-Ti that comes in Predator Helios 300 2019.

At times I still get random CTDs, usually when the combat is hot.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting here with Windows7 and a 750Ti graphics card, and the games runs with remarkable stability for me. I know this is going to upset people to hear it, but the problem appears to be on your end, not PGIs. Otherwise, wouldn't everyone be having these problems?

Now, some problems are obviously on PGIs end. When hitreg goes to poop, or shots to the front torsos register on the back (or vice versa)? Yeah, that's on PGI. And even if it isn't their fault, it is still their responsibility.

Depends on your setup
DX11 takes advantage of your GPU more than DX 9
Use DX11 if you have the hardware, check your power supply, Have one that runs at 80% at full load, and yo guid

full window is a workaround at best, but an effective work around (especially with video hardware more than 4 or 5 generations old). what full window does is keep the video card rendering during context switches, so the video card wont try to throttle itself down to a power save mode. the crash usually happens when you tab back in.

what happens is mwo says, 'ok were back start rendering', and the video card replies 'im sleeping', but the game doesn't understand 'im sleeping' so it crashes. a programmer would need to find the point in the code where this exception is thrown and write an exception handler. and if thrown it would tell the video card to wake up, wait for the all clear, before continuing to execute the next command. the default behavior is to cause a crash, because accessing hardware that isn't ready can very bad.

its things like this that make me question whether pgi has any actual coders, because exception handlers are not hard to write at all, usually less than 10 lines. ive written thousands as just a hobbyist level coder.

also the thing about modern hardware, if your card is so old that it is compliant with cryengine circa 2013, it probably wont run the game well. when i was running the 750ti, id get the crash, before that i was running a 560, which didnt have the problem. but try running the game on that card today. the 750ti had trouble keeping up. wasnt till i got the 1060 that i could get 60fps at 1080, then moving to the 2070 super let me run 4k, and all of those experienced the fullscreen crash bug. the only card that didnt runs like a slide show.

dx version didnt have as much of an impact as the full window did. it might help in some situations though. i think i remember it reduced but not eliminated crashes, but the full window option deletes them.

i used to think that too. i got a stack of old psus to attest to it as well, all there because they crashed mwo. nothing is wrong with any of them though. they all passed load tests. psus in the range between 650 and 850. currently running a 600w sfx supply (dare i say its even cute), which following this line of reasoning should not work at all (its even 50w below the requirements on the video card), yet does so crash free.

the problem is power related though. video cards have power states. the video card changes this state in response to context switches (alt tabbing to another program). compared to cryengine 3, these features are fairly new and the game is ill equipped to handle them. full window bypasses the problem.

only ones who should really worry is if they bought an oem machine, and upgraded the video card. those oems only put in enough power for the stock configuration. so moving to a higher tier video card than what it was built for might be problematic.

I play nightly and have had 1 crash in the last 4 months or so that I remember. My setup is pretty basic however.

Win10 Home
i5-4670k
32GB ram
SanDisk SSD
GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I run the game from GeForce Experience.
DX11, Full Window, Motion Off, V-Sync Off, Damage Glow On
Advanced: M/M/L/M/L/L/L/M/OFF

Hope that helps someone...
