So I have been looking at matches were I go through all of my ammo and looking at the potential damage of that ammo compared to damage registered. Specifically srms.

Number of missiles divided by launcher size multiplied by the damage of the launcher. Baseline half my missiles miss.

630/4 = 157.5 x 8.6 = 1354.5/2 = 677.25

Damage reported at the end of the match 375.

Thats just one match, I have been looking at every match I dump all my ammo and it varies a bit but thats a good estimate. Also not bragging on my skills but my hit ratio is a lot higher than half because I tend to get behind people and spam them into their back at cuddle distance.

So is hit registration really only 50%ish or am I missing something here?

I have noticed a registration bug where SRMs failed to register if the cooldown period is shorter than the missile door duration. The first salvo counts but often the second or third volley generates no weapon reticle flash.

I have observed this on the Dervish, Archer and Catapult when not manually toggling the doors with boated SRM4/SRM2 loadouts.

Which mechs have you been using?

Been noticing it as a general trend but doing the testing on a Bloodlust so no bay doors.

Record a couple matches when using surms, upload the one with the worst reg here and send link to pgi support, not that they're going to do anything about it. Most of the time players subjective memory tends to remember their hit rates as much higher than they actually are. You're probably shooting out of range, and just clipping the enemy with the salvos. SRMs have atrocious spread, especially clan ones. At 300m it's pretty much impossible to land all missiles on smaller faster moving mechs even if your shots are very good.

Your internet connection is important too, I moved from an area with great internet to an area with reasonably fast, but very inconsistent wireless internet, and my hit reg dropped like 10% overnight, I just have lag spikes all the time so it happens.

Here is an example of the Dervish problem from a few minutes ago. I am on the European server. I have a stable connection and my ping is 136ms. My target is a fairly stationary Atlas with a ping of 18ms which I am shooting center mass.

Watch the second salvo. This is not a just a visual problem, the damage is literally disappearing into the ether when cross checked with end of match tallies. Bay doors eat one out of three SRM4 salvos and two out of three SRM2 salvos when fired continuously.

I don't run srms on clan mechs and my estimate of a 50% hit to miss ratio was to account for spread and bad shots. Lights/medium with srms is my primary playstyle. Not claiming god like skills but I am very ammo conscious so am always looking at range to target and can tell you the max range on every mech I run srms on. Believe me when I say I am liberally accounting for pilot error with the 50% estimate.

I'm on buried fiberoptic cable, I can see the node shack from the end of my driveway about half a mile away. Pay for 50mb/s and actually get 70 ish when I run speed test on it because Im so close to the node.

My frame rates and ping are usually pretty good unless Im in a match with people with horrible ping. I only play on NA servers just because of this. I absolutely hate lag and well aware of it.

My machine, I built this thing to run CAD and control 3D printers, it's less than 2 years old. My specs are over 4x what the base requirements are.

I am also looking at this over dozens of matches and can clearly see a trend.

As for recording it for PGI I have no illusions they are going to do anything to fix this game. My intent here is just to discuss it with other players.

well until you show us the video, it's just your subjective opinion, I've seen plenty of cases of a shot here or there not registering, but it doesn't tend to be happening consistently

lol, that's a good one, yeah

it happens, yesterday without a lag spike I emptied a 3LL 4EML alpha on a blackjack at 200m, it visually showed the burn on his CT/RT and it registered no damage whatsoever. I dunno if you can completely get rid of this with online games

Yeah I always toggle doors open when I get in range because I hate the spread between launchers behind the doors and not. On my Kintaros with the CT launcher I just throw a rocket launcher in there for crit padding.

Hazeclaw, I don't run any software to capture vids from games nor do I have anywhere to post them if I did. Pretty sure my gpu software has something but never used it.

The point being I don't really care if you believe me or not, Im just throwing this out here for discussion not some attempt to explain away bad matches on my part or epeen on how great I am.

Want proof of validity do your own testing.

@Johnny: Windows10 has built in videocapture.

Windows Key + Alt + G = 30 second clip
Windows Key + Alt + R = user terminated clip

Never had a problem with hit reg, have noticed when using a VPN that reg has issues but that's due to the decreased connection quality. Basically, if the server doesn't receive the message that you fired, it's not PGI's issue, but your ISP's.

Still on Win 7 because when they launched Win 8 they completely changed the UEFI and backwards comparability is crap. But thanks for the info.

Probably AMS you don't realize is there.

Record it.
Post it.

Otherwise it's just conjecture.

Not only are SRMs buggy (when using large amounts of em at least), but almost every other game i encounter the ghost PPC bug, where i take a direct hit to the face with PPC particle fx, and 0 damage to paper doll afterwards despite being well within optimal range to deal dmg (this happens even at 500m).

Anyways, back to SRMs, ive had the best results in terms of hitreg when chainfiring SRM-6As over alfa striking all 4 (sometimes it does full dmg, sometimes half the missiles ghost out of existence). For some reason that many projectiles must be hard to calculate or something, and i think the same can be said of LBXs (i rarely use em myself, but ive eaten full quad LBX-10s to the backside with 0 rear armor and it barely turned the structure orange on a heavy).

Still, pretty much every weapon can occasionally do phantom dmg, laser vomit is also suceptible (less of an issue since you tend to be at range and could care less if 1/10 rounds do squat), and dakka seems to be very good (if a few pellets fail to do dmg you wont notice anyways). So yeah, as annoying as these bugs are, they arent that common to destroy my enjoyment of game).

Hitreg in this game is fine for pretty much everything except SRMs.

I had some trouble with RL20s once.

I remember during one event where we had to do some damage with Rockets and I unloaded 5 RL20s and the match report didn't reflect that amount of rocket damage. I was well outside the minimum range of those rockets, too.

I disagree... I've seen the void eat full laser alphas many many times.. Especially on some mechs, and around certain players..

Hitreg is mostly alright, surely ways better than when this game started, but I wouldn't say its fine or that SRMs are the only issue. The entire PPC family had and still has reg trouble, RLs are wonky, and the lower caliber MRM launchers, specifically the MRM10 has for some weird reason an appaling hitreg compared to its bigger buddies (which nobody probably notices since nobody uses MRM10s to begin with).

Yeah, the ones that don't stand still 50m in front with their backs turned toward you.

Oh, sorry, mybad ... 181m, not 50m.
