Since new features may be back on the table, a button operated rear view camera option would be an amazing addition, and is one that has had many requests in the past: https://mwomercs.com...h?q=rear+camera

I know we can't ask for picture in picture style due to engine limitations, but a button or toggle to temporarily show a rear view full screen (like in Mechwarrior 4 I think) would be a boon to situational awareness and the many times you gotta throw it in reverse.

On the Lore side of things the use of rear-firing weaponry is quite present, notably Yen-Lo-Wang and others (Wolfhound etc.). I guess it might frag up their basic slot mechanism, not to speak of the aiming. Maybe with some 3rd party drone backwards view button? And for energy weapons only?

Hell I would settle for a sensor sound that says.. .Hey fool you are backing into something that wont move! But a small camera looking rear and down would be excellent.

It so happens that "MechWarrior 2" used to have a "Rear View Camera" available, even though I never got to really learn how to use it. I could really use this in MWO now, since I have become more able to pick these functions up! B)

Two points on the skill tree for seismic sensor... it’s different than a rear view camera, but IMO more useful, as it can detect mechs on a different elevation than you. I only fight without it when I’m running lights. (You have to stand still for a moment to use it... something a light should not do.)

That has its' use, but does not cover the issue that results in an Idea Thread such as this. The kind of problem which the Opening Poster is trying to address here happens to deal with either...
  • getting stuck on Terrain while traveling in reverse
  • having another Mech walk right up behind and block a friendly Mech needing to retreat
...when moving the player's own Mech backwards on the battlefields. Neither of those issues are covered by the Seismic Sensor in any way. Further, the Seismic Sensor is non-functional & useless when a Mech is in motion, and it is usually not safely possible in most cases to stop a moment for checking with it. On top of that, the failure of PGI to restore the previously-existing functionality of showing which way your Teammates are pointed on the Minimap has made this problem with needing to be able to see behind the player's Mech a whole lot worse than it ever used to be. This rather helpful Rear-View Idea therefore attracted my notice and supporting because there are gaps in player awareness that were not present before the MiniMap got messed up with the Weight Class Info changes that happened at the same time as trying to over-shrink the display which the player has in their view. Hopefully, someone at PGI will take notice and either restore Friendly Directional Arrows on the MiniMap information, or we will end up with this Mech Rear-View Idea coming into being an existing element of MWO's game. If neither happen, it will continue to cause trouble for both a player's awareness, as well as overall Teamwork during any Match that someone plays.

We don't need rear firing weaponry in this game, just rear camera.
