ok so here is my take on events since the patch notes were released.

patch notes posted
community outrage from gulag and re-funners alike.
salt levels in the community increase
patch drops
salt continues to flow
people actually play with the tweaks
meta is stirred around, formerly fun builds die and are replaced with new ones.
community starts getting over it

was the intention here to make waves or fix the game? i really think it was more the former than the latter, though a little of both. is salt actually good for business?

perhaps pgi are on to something, they have been doing small marginal tweaks for years now. this new ham fisted approach is making the game interesting again.

--addendum--
gulag pts announced

so there appears to be some lag between outrage and acceptance in the community. somewhere between those two things pgi decides to give the people what they want and set up a gulag pts. which for the record i think is a great idea. ive noticed several situations where pgi does the backslide without letting the changes ride. pgi likes to cash in their chips the second things start going south. rather than let the community ride whatever emotional roller coaster change creates. then pgi tears it down before they get off. i think there is a lesson to be learned here.

community starts getting over it

I disagree on that part.

i cant speak for everyone but thats kind of how i experienced it. a few others seem to have gotten over it as well. some of the forumites have done a full 180 between the patch notes and the patch being in play for a couple days.

Yeah, after all, when they invented ghost heat, nobody was ever going to use PPCs again. When they added the gauss charge mechanic, nobody was ever going to use gauss again. When they added engine desync, nobody was ever going to play assault mechs again. ...

Some people rage quit, the meta changes, the community adapts. The dude abides.

By "Intentional" you mean frustrating players to the point of quitting the game?

I'm a returning founder player. Have been on hiatus the last 3 years, started playing again about 3 months ago. Was having lots of fun this time around. I was feeling the game had mellowed out found some sort of groove of relative enjoyability/balance. Suddenly BAM! same old PGI $#!#@$

People still to this day hate ghost heat.. it was a dumb idea then and it is now.. I adapt by not using them. Also lots of bad decisions does not make it right "after a while" it's still a bad decision.. Which PGI is a master of doing.

i mean to intentionally cause controversy. you got a stagnant game and you want to bring players back, the status quo isnt working, so you do something crazy instead. i initially had a negative reaction to the patch notes. i normally dont play off events, and i had finished the first half of lucky charms, but i couldnt resist logging in after the patch and screwing around with the changes even though the second half hadnt started yet. i think it gets players back, you get your usual salt post "im leaving" types, but then jarls reports a population spike.

Aside from MASC, which was ridiculous, the PPC changes are fine. Can't comment on gauss as I honestly don't see them much outside of H-Gauss, and the appropriate reaction to H-Gauss is to run.

Meh...

I've here long enough (some say too long) to watch the pendulum of adjusted play mechanics swing from left to right to not get my undies in a bunch until the dust settles.

That said, yes... sometimes a little salt is necessary.
