If you plan on staying out of obvious danger range then stealth vs ECM only doesn't make much difference. If you're going to TAG and give a literal laser pointer to where you are, you may as well just go with ECM.
TAG and NARC is really hoping you get a LRM heavy team on an open map to achieve anything, which is fairly rare. PPC is all the meta at the moment.

I'd highly suggest to drop BOTH the tag and the narc. mount some weapons instead.
doing damage by yourself is way more consistent and effective.
also fun
give the stealth-commando a try; slap some srms on it, it's such a joy to pilot.

If you want to make the most of Narc I highly recommend the Raven with its Narc duration quirk. I think along with skill points you can get narcs that last almost a minute. That's an eternity in quickplay matches. Raven also has the tonnage to do stealth armor and some backup weapons.

Thanks but no thanks I'd rather take small and agile 25 tonner than huge clumsy 35 tonner, narc duration doesn't matter much if there are 3 awesomes darkening the sky with lrms.
narc to enemys face and call your friends to shoot that one is best back up weapon in the game.

I've found the beauty of the narc to be mostly that you have constant intel on the enemy position. And sometimes it forces them into cover while your team bashes their friends. I've been having a lot of fun with it.

while you -do- have a point, it's more of a team-thing; fine if you drop with mates, often useless though when you go to quickplay.
I lost enough matches where the ENTIRE enemy team was narced - because nobody bothered to actually use the information given to them. in the end, a narc on its own doesn't kill anybody.
enough damage to the right spot OTOH always does.

Just run into literally point blank range and no way that ams battery is shooting that narc down within 5 meters
that's why the stealth armor be ninja!

That's the beauty of running a single LRM-5 with spare tonnage on your mech. People get that "incoming missile" warning and crouch behind a rock, not knowing its only 5 missiles.
