I'm trying to tell you that the answer is more complex than just 1 drop deck or a handful of mech builds, so rubbing elbows with a large variety of top tier pilots and asking them questions is the only way to learn to play and build mechs at that level. The OP asking what the "meta" wouldn't be asking the question if he wasn't interested in playing at that level.

You are obviously content being mediocre and staying that way, as is indicated by the general thrust of your paragraph answer to his question which could be easily summarized in "play whatever".

I play quick play because its a fun time waster I can pick up when I have some spare time and I don't have the time budget for organized play. Why are you turning this into some epeen contest? I couldn't care less what you do or how you play. Was just pointing out that maybe the forums are not useless to ask? Especially since me calling out your negative post prompted you to actually answer his question with the list of expanded options. LOL, if you want to play MWO in the 90%+ all you need is a pulse. I got an alt into Jarl's 99.5% last month playing nothing but a LCT-1E SPL build, SDR-5V MPL/JJ/base cap meme build, RVN-4X LPL build, and COU-H poptart build.

It literally doesn't matter what you run as long as you're marginally competent. The average level of play in MWO is thirty sub-basements below ground level and the skill ceiling is low enough for most people to bump their heads. If you can muster at least two of: aim, situational awareness, reflexes, coherent build philosophy, map knowledge, and game sense, you can play at that level.

Tiers 4 and 5 have different metas to 1 and 2, tier 3 is very awkward to play in, what works in one tier doesn't in other tiers.. Case in point some of those trial mech loadouts..
