You absolutely should!

I watched someone stream it the other day briefly. It was absolutely hilarious. I can't wait to give it a run myself actually.

They speak for themselves not you... talking about "any of us who don't know or care who they are" who are you and why should we care?

Well it's free and works pretty well.
It's pretty much IRC with easy'ish GUI and VOIP combined.

Why? What part or function of it is worthy of your hate? is teamspeak or ventrilo or something other similar program way better?

One the bloatware associated with it.. the fact it literally takes over PCs.. The fact nearly ever discord is full of trolls aholes or power hungry people telling others what they can't do and lists of rules no ones ever reads, mostly under false pretenses. muting people pushing and pulling people across discord to tell them off or read them their rights while blocking others because they can.. Way too much drama queens and the worst of all the fact it opens you up to malware pretty heavily..

Honestly i can't remember a good time being in Discord.. Yes i used Ventrilo and teamspeak for years.. far less malware and way less bloat.

Lots of facts...

Bit bloaty yeah, takes over PC haven't heard that one before
Don't you pick your company people being aholes isn't really programs fault. Personally I don't have similar XP, I got experience of about <30 discord channels.
do you mean people offer you files and you open/run those files from random people?

do you have some links to share about that taking over PC and Malware, if you got I would be interested to read.

The malware issue is partly one of not needing to actually download and run a file. There's currently a thing making the rounds which shows an image of what it looks like when an uploaded image is trying to load itself for viewing in-app. Sometimes Discord just chokes a little bit and you have to manually open the image to view it, which doesn't require leaving the app and loading a website. The problem is that in this case the image is actually a hook that then gives access to your system on some level, allowing a scammer to do you dirty.

This isn't anything new for social apps (Discord, Skype, even MSN Messenger back in the day). It's just the manner in which Discord handles these things, the fact uploads can persist over a long period of time, the ability to crosspost them over multiple Discord groups with ease, and the overall popularity of the program makes it more likely for scammers to reach those that are unaware. At the end of the day, though, it's the same advice as it's ever been: never trust anyone on the internet.

[Edit]: Also, this entire thread has become exceptionally strange now that Dave has deleted all his posts. Behold as we all complain about an empty void!

ok so exactly what I thought, don't open stuff random people send and don't casually use full admin accounts.
Thanks for info.

I'm using it with MRMs plus LPPCs. Glorious velocity boost!

Spoiler

As I told you many months ago when you made this same absolutely baseless argument, linkeed similar articles blah blah...

Malware on discord is only a problem on large public/unregulated & unsecured discord servers.

Most half intelligent discord operators have various security options, protcols etc to enable and thus never have a problem. MWO Comp has never had an issue, my own has never had an issue etc.

If you aren't silly enough to click a phising link in email, SMS or other apps/programs - then you should not be silly enough to click a phishing link from a discord message.

Discord does not take over your PC. That is completely and utterly wrong.

Take off the tinfoil hat.

wrt to discord/etc: people saying "its free" like that is some sort of good thing. if its free its actually one or more of these.

you are the product. your data is belong to us. in case of f2p games, you are usually cannon fodder for more financially entrenched players. its a good alternative to blatant spam as its transparent to the user, so it doesn't feel as intrusive as it actually is.

its going to be nothing but ads. this is why everything is an app now, so they can bypass your ad blocker in your browser. they want to run their code in a space they control, signed and verified unmodded. then they convince the youngins that its the more advanced way to do things, pay no attention to whom is actually being advanced.

it might actually be foss, which usually comes with a whole other can of worms. its usually hard to use, has a tiny fraction of the market share, and people who want to cram ads in your face (read: corporations) wont make it the official means of doing whatever the thing is supposed to do.

the only alternative is to pay for your software, but even paid software tends to farm your data. i would pay real money for software that does the thing and only the thing. but i dont think that exists. and without the code it cannot be verified to not be spying on you. there is probibly a market for that kind of thing. but getting people to pay for software is hard. especially when you got people lined up to sell their soul to the devil for free stuff. and we all do it because we don't have a choice.

Just want to give some props to forum mods for not attempting to “keep the thread on-topic” as may have been done in the past, since folks have digressed here into other interesting/relevant/related topics.

Just calling balls and strikes. Keep up the good work.

Ehh, discord discussion is still relevant to Cauldron discussion, as that is probably where the folks are most active Posted Image
