Make it closer to it, is boring long walk up to it, at least 2-5 mins. long walking, depending on engine speed

An Uziel with a 180 standard engine might be the problem here.

It's only an issue in domination and skirmish mode, would be fine in assault or conquest. This is one of the few maps that can feel somewhat good in a 12v12 set up instead of an 8v8.

that has always been the case with Polar. honestly its only a problem on Domination when your team gets the bad roll of the crap MM dice by getting no light or fast mechs. i tend to play a LOT of heavy and Assault mechs so i might just be used to it. its not as bad as it used to be though. Polar used to be this huge flattish map with few shallow Trenches (it was LRM heaven honestly especially if you had a good spotter, its why my Catapult has more of a snow pattern camo on it). at least now there is cover in the center. still a good map for a decent LRM user but not near like it was. even as someone who plays LRMs and loves them i found old Polar a bit to much.
