I sorta agree. Not sure if its really worth the trouble to encourage not taking advantage of omnipods, but there's a few, not many, mechs that do have absolutely massive SO8 quirks.

The missile quirks on MDD-PRIME come to mind. It is limited to only 2 missile hardpoints but gets absolutely astonishing quirks. I sometimes run one with 2ATM12, which gives it considerable sustained DPS but is too fragile and lacking JJ to be truly good.

It's basically just a battlemech that you can't put another engine in, and there, they usually build it with respect to quirks.

Not much else to it than that. The warhawk is the best example. The prime is good because PPCs, the others are pretty lackluster because they don't have those quirks. The C has generic energy heat which is ok, but i mean you saw me out in the water on river city with ER larges and I didn't do that great (i played like **** tho) so its not like 4% energy heat is going to make you a monster.

The warhawk prime is the bar these mechs should be held to. If it's the example of pod quirks done (mostly) right, then the summoner is the example of them done wrong. Imagine mixed loadout summoners with wacky missile and autocannon cooldown, velocity and range quirks to encourage use of *literally any other pods except the energy nipple pods*.

The C is pretty damn good with LPLs right now.

Re: the general topic, I don't see any need to change the So8 system. I think the Cauldron approach that Ash has described makes sense. Provide bigger buffs to some So8 sets where appropriate and make more use of pod-quirks to open up some more possibilities.

The set of 6 ideas, and ideas like it, strike me as very tricky and potentially problematic. The SMN only needs to swap out two pods to run a lot of it's top-tier builds, so a set of six system could either create a lot of issues there, or be totally irrelevant for the SMN. The current system is fine, it just needs a quirk pass and designers who recognize that clan mechs aren't OP (which we have in the Cauldron).
