you know on the low end of engine ratings there are a lot of obsolete ratings that are the same tonnage as some better engine that can go faster. for example xl105-120 are all 1 ton engines. the next one the 125 is 2 tons but comes with an extra internal sink for the same tonnage. so there is no sane reason to use xl105-120s, and you should use the xl125. usually the only valid use for those engines are on mechs with engine caps at that rating. but the majority of those engines are well below any mech's cap. so i think another option would be to either give those engines extra hs slots or some other kind of buffs.

It's not possible to simply remove the 10 HS minimum rule because all engines technically have 10 HS worth of cooling. Take the standard 60 rating engine, it is listed as -2.5 tons in MWO and has 2 internal HS requiring 8 external. This engine is actually 5.5 tons and does come with 10 HS worth of cooling built in, PGI just implemented it in a really awkward and not user-friendly way. It adds nothing to the game. This is true of all engines under 250 rating.
I really wish they would just give every engine 10 heatsinks and adjust the weights so that they aren't so confusing. It would make tweaking engine size so much easier when you don't have to fiddle with the heat sink limit, and would make light mechs less of a headache to build in.

I also agree on this, the current 0.5 tonnage rounding comes from pen and paper table top. There is no reason why with computers we can't use the formula and round to 3 or 4 decimal places instead.
