I would like to see a mech pick/ban phase before each match.
Something like Dota 2 or Rainbow 6 Siege.
This will also allow tonnage restrictions in each match. I envision players being queued like in the ready up screen but still need to pick and ban mechs based on map and scenario. The map and scenario are randomly chosen and rotated each patch by devs (I know that sounds scary). Players will now have their first taste of role warfare based on the bans by each team. Teams then have a time limit to pick their mech. Players pick their mech from top of list to bottom (turns can be weighted in the background to give players a fair chance to be first or at least top 4). Tonnage restrictions will apply in this screen. If a team doesn't have their selections within the time limit, the game can load trial mechs to balance out the tonnage.
I believe a pick ban phase is the missing piece to both balance out quick play and Battlemechs. If there is a permabanned mech then devs can address the mech with some balance not keep trying to balance all weapons because of one mech. This will also make it more fun as the meta can change based on mech chassis as well as weapon damage.
