i was wondering, if i max out the ECM on skills, Will Radar Dep. do anything, it seems the ECM should already be doing anything the radar Dep. does.

Also if im running a Pure PPC mech is seems i need to choose the laser skill in order to max out the other skills in that tree?

does the laser skill do anything for PPCs ?

Radar Derp helps when people detect you. ECM nodes mean that people generally have to get closer in order to detect you.

So TL;DR, Radar Derp still does stuff with max ECM but it's probably less noticeable since you won't be detected as often.

The 4 yellow Laser nodes do nothing for PPCs since they have no Duration stat.
You can avoid 3 of them easy, the upper middle one can also be avoided and you really do not need the nodes connected below it.

a lot of the skill trees make you take skills that are useless to get to the skills that are useful. thats nothing new.

radar derp is fairly useless if you have maxed ecm since nobody is really using streaks now.

So, radar derp is mostly meant to disrupt lock ons at long ranges (mostly lrms) when you move behind soft cover and the lock is lost and the missiles keep going to the last known position and prevents further tracking to fire. If you have ecm nodes full you can not be targeted with out a tag or narc or closer targeting mech/uav. Under those circumstances radar derp will not help.
So while it is still possible for radar derp to be usefull with ecm nodes... your not going to put it to use very often.

by the way I think MIT is offering a summer course in the proper use of the skills in the skill tree, its an online course anyone can take for a nominal fee

your ecm can be jammed by a target that doesnt have LoS on you too thats the most likely scenario where radar derp can be useful when also you have the ecm skills.

but again that doesnt come up that often

it would be better if the skill trees didnt make you take useless skills
