Incorrect.
Just because it can have 2 more engine HS does not mean it needs them.

all engines rated 250 or higher have 10 heat sinks, engines 275 and higher get external sink slots (+1 for each additional 25 rating value). i dont think this game enforces the 10 sink rule though. in fact i dont think it cares about engines at all.

If you look at the numbers on the left, you can see it's draining 1 heat per second, which in this game means "no heat sinks", engine or no. If it actually had 10 double heat sinks, I'd expect it to be draining 3 heat/sec. It also means this guy takes almost 17 seconds to drain off one alpha strike - that seems fairly unusable? I gotta believe that someone messed up - maybe they were intending to track engine heatsinks and pulled it out late, like they did for infantry?

I hear this is accurate though not tried myself. Heard there is a video of someone taking a Light Mech with a less then 250 engine, removing the outside engine heat sinks and using it thus violating the 10 needed rules unless they changed engines to all have 10 default but not seen official word on that.

I do know you can mix DHS and SHS, done it.

So my belief is the whole HS system is messed up.

Actually I think this is it. When you add a single heatsink, it raises the "heat drained" stat by .1. Every mech, regardless of engine size, with 0 additional heat sinks on it, drains 1 heat/sec. So I think every engine is considered to have ten SINGLE heatsinks, thus leading to 1 heat drained / second.

The ON1-P is based on the ON1-K, which I think should have 10 double heat sinks? Which would mean draining 2 heat/sec, or 1 alpha strike in 8.5 seconds. It's also supposed to have an ARTIV LRM15 instead of SRM4, which is less uh.... weedy? And fits better with the gauss and the PPC - Artemis on an SRM4 is an idiot's weapon to begin with since the Artemis increases the weight of the SRM by 33% and all so you can decrease the spread on something that already only fires four projectiles.

In short, this takes a really great base/original thing and, through some dumb decisions and big mistakes, manages to make it unusable but very expensive. It does seem like the perfect mascot for PGI.

MW5 get's rid of the 10 heatsinks rule. That's all. A commando still only has 6 Heatsinks (0.6 heatdissipation) if you remove all external HS. Every mech that has a 250 or higher rated engine in lore/MWO has a base heat disspation of 1.0 h/s

I couldn't find a Commando on sale quickly in my game, but I did find this Urbie! I would expect an Urbie to have 2 engine heat sinks, but it looks like it also has 6:

So it looks like it's a binary choice - you either get 6 heat sinks with your engine, or you get 10? When I get some time I'll try and strip more mechs and take a look.

All of this is kind of derailing the original point - WHATEVER they're doing with their heat sink system, it makes the ON1-P nowhere near worth its 7.4m cbill pricetag.
