I found out about this the other day, it certainly would be nice to keep upgrades.

Considering that upgrades don't go into your stored inventory like gear does when you put something in cold storage, instead just vanishing into thin air, upgrades to the mech should absolutely stay on the mech even in cold storage. They're modifications to the mech itself, rather than equipment being installed in them. It'd be like if the XL upgrade that a few mechs have went away when put into cold storage.
Either that, or allow you to store mech upgrades you've gotten like you can with weapons and gear, so reinstalling them would only take the time to install, and merely some minimal installation cost, since you've already paid for the upgrade itself.

I have not used any upgrades yet despite having 1/3 to 1/2 of them unlocked so far.
Currently my Main is still the Centurion but since i have the Dragon from this famous (speak dead) Pirate i made it a better faster Centurion and thought about upgrading it bcs i will probably play quite a long time in it.
That Upgrades disapear in Cold Storage, well, that depends how they are related to exchangeabel equipment or to the unchangeable equipment would be my reason.
Upgrades that are Mech bound should stay and Upgrades that are bound to equipment that is put off while in cold storage should disapear with said equipment.
My thoughts about that...
PS: Very good you got rid of that annoying view blocking engine cover the Dragons in MWO have - the Visual Systems of a Battlemech would surely not display that and allow instead an unimpaired line of view.

I have another idea for the Devs. Instead of letting us have unlimited cold storage mechs keeping there loadouts why not let us upgrade our dropship? Instead of having just the leopard, which canon wise only held a single lance of 4 mechs (not 12 as in game) Let us go on some crazy story arch or something to find a lost SLDF Union class dropship(The giant spheres). They had 12 mech bays. which would match what is in game. There is also other dropships/mech carriers that held much more which again could be a great idea for future DLC. It would match up too if they ever wanted to do Clan DLC because clanners used a modified Union class among multiple other classes to transport in there clan stars(5 mechs) Just my two cents on the topic.

Thanks for the heads up on loosing the upgrades.
I guess we'll have to remove them in the mechlab before putting our mechs in cold storage.
Here is a lazy thought - - -
Really wish the Dev's would allow us to have a 'save configuration' option so when the mech is stripped going into cold storage, we could restore it's prior configuration without the grind of having to add each component manually after pulling the mech out of cold storage.
*Of course this would require all needed components to be in inventory beforehand, or a warning that a component was unavailable.
And, of course, any monetary charges would be deducted from your account automatically at the local rate.
Basically, everything would work the same but instead of manually re-configuring your cold storage mech, you would push a 'restore saved configuration' button and "Bob's your Uncle".
Peace

That is one of the things i develop my house rules for so it makes more sense to me.
Unlimited cold Storage does not make sense at all aside of the gamification pov. and i understand some like/prefer gamification.
My "House Rule" about that is, that my storage is 12 Slots combined and the Cold Storage has the advantage you do not have to pay maintenance.
If i exceed that 12 Slots i do not need to trash Mechs, but i need travel to the nearest industiral hub to sell them off there until its 12 or below.
Sort of improvised rent for extra space on additional frighter ships to haul extra ssalvage that exceeds your Dropships capacity.
I honestly would like ammo storage management too...i totally would adore the Mechwarrior-Football Manager synthesis!
