I am closing on a couple of MWO 'Achievements', which basically means getting a 'title'. So, if you had to push 500 assists in a particular weight category (for this argument, let's say mediums), what mech would you use? And if you needed 100 or so components destroyed quickly, which medium mech would you decide on?

What Do You Think You Could Do Faster... 100 Components, Or 500 Assists?

Both of these will just come naturally in the course of regular play. I don't think its worth trying to optimize for.

Just play as you usually do.
Getting assists is easy and any suitable long range weapon (such as ER Large laser) can help.
Destroying components is easy, especially if you are running multiple SRMs or LBX-10 or -20 autocannons.

Nova. Hands down. That things a surgeon with small pulse and machineguns. You could also ams it up, if you prefer survival for some weird reason.

Bushwhacker with two LB10-X shotguns, preferably in the torsos. Shoot everything that’s not on your team as often as you can. You can score a bit of damage at range which can help with assists and once the fight gets into brawling distance you’ll start wrecking components.
Other, better players might suggest much better mechs and/or builds but it works for me.
In the end, as others have said, just play and they will come naturally.
Good hunting,

To get the most assists, you need a relatively mobile mech with at least a medium range weapon. However, for components destroyed, you usually want a higher alpha loadout. For components destroyed, the best time to get those during a fight is midway through when most enemies have some armor lost, so look for targets of opportunity (without disadvantaging your teammates).

By means of follow up, I got 'Shredder' first, and by quite a bit. Even though I am strictly tier Casual Potato, I jumped into a Black Lanner and got the 100 components in what felt like a rather quick fashion. As I type this, I am still about 200 medium mech assists away from 'The People's Hero'. achievement.. but that will come.

well you can only get 12 assists per match, you can get 4 or 5 components per mech, so you aren't as hard capped as you are with assists. whether or not you can get 12+ components in a match with any reliability depends on skill. but you are going to take parts off of every mech, you will get your assists anyway. going to be a lot of gimp and leave and that's gonna piss off your targets and they are going to start trying to focus you.
if i was just playing normally id get more points from the assists because im seeking kills and not a lot of unnecessary component destruction. i also do not need to seek contact with the entire enemy team one mech at a time, which requires high mobility and i generally dont want that much exposure (at least one of those pilots will be the carrying pilot).
