Well that was quite some fun, now wasn' t it (second time this happens within a month). Now please you cocky posters don' t give me comments like "the team should have payed better attention" . Look at the scores of the enemies teammates. The ones with zero score are not going to like their buddy. Not at all.
What remains is a hangover.

The team should've paid better attention.

Like it or not, this game is not "everybody rush to the middle and die like an idiot in 100% of all matches", however hard assault pilots, newbs, and people who vote for Domination try to make it that game. Sometimes ya gotta pay attention to the objective.

Sure I did.

Don't ignore the objective.

You may feel like the best way to play MWO is to murderball in the middle and have an Internet Robit Nerd slap fight with absolutely no semblance of tactics, maneuver, or intelligence, but not everybody concurs.

Ok I’m going to confess - I played this match and thought it was hilarious.

But then I was on the winning side so I can see how it could be annoying from the other side.

Trying to be objective it was quite a smart plan by the guys who suggested it - run around the outside (like a NASCAR), put 8 mechs on the target, leave 4 assaults slightly behind to deal with anyone who realised what was happening.

But, but, the people who don’t want 8v8 say that this stopped happening when we moved to 12v12…….

Hangover? There was no Hangover in that match. Not even any regular Thanatos variants. This is very confusing.

Although there is plenty of blame to go around, since no names are displayed I will say....wow, you had a Locust, and a Pirates Bane at that. Maybe that pilot was very inexperienced, but if not he should have seen the makeup of his team, realized he had the only fast mech, and been on the look-out for a base rush. I am on record as hating air strikes / arty strikes, but even I would have had 2 on me in a Pirates Bane. Dropping 2 on a base full of mechs while my team got back would have been sweet.

PSR goes meh, nobody gets any points, the match was marginally more eventful than sitting in matchmaker. There is no metagame or strategic victory since it's just QP....

but hey it's a win...

I think we are just witnessing 2 philosophies at odds here. One says that a win is a win is a win. The other is trying to play mechwarrior. It may be kinda funny from time to time, but it's annoying too. Sometimes it just unintentionally happens.

Unless PGI removes objectived based games (that isn't conquest) you will have these kind of matches every once in a while where no fight happens. Honestly I'm in the "don't do this crap" camp because its just annoying to queue up for a match and then not get to play.

Something to say to those who go "hur dur shouldn't let them cap" is what if your team doesn't have the speed to go stop the cap? Should a team lose because there is no one fast either due to mech choices or wonky MM giving you loads of heavier mechs?

If you've got nothing but fatness on your team, maybe don't push so far into the map that you can't turn around and shoot back into your base until you locate the enemy?

Literally anything that changes a typical MWO match from "Run to the middle like an idiot, die like an idiot, queue up to repeat" is a net plus. It's why Domination can die in a fire and Conquest is easily the best game mode in MWO. if you lost a base cap because your team of 60kph or lower sumo wrestlers pushed two klicks out and couldn't pull their lard butts back to base in time, that's on you guys. Learn, move on.

So put yourself in an inferior position to defend a base that is likely to not even get capped? Genius.

Seems rather disrespectful given the ongoing lootbag event which is awarded on the basis of matchscore. Nobody wins in this scenario.

Then I guess every once in a while, you get to get capped. If you're not willing to consider the objective even slightly in an objective game type, why should someone feel bad that you got capped out? Just because you wanted to rush to the middle - which is NEVER tactically advantageous, beeteedubs, it's always a shitshow - and die?

Wait, so only the middle, or domination circle even, has advantageous locations, especially for a purposeful defensive style fireing line?

No wonder everyone must go to D5 on Solaris city. I had no idea it was the only place on the map that had an advantageous location.

Streamers and the esports crowd treat MWO like any other FPS, end of match is their respawn and they want to slam dunk as many matches as possible into an evening. After all, no one wants to watch a streamer watch someone else so of course they need to get the match completed. If everyone murderballs and dies within 3 minutes of each other it's fine right? Right. Respawn ahoy! Match is over.

I had a team do this couple days ago.

One guy in the match CALLED for it. "Base rush guys, go go go!" And everyone did it, giggling the whole way. It was funny because the enemy team left it wide open. After the cap was half down, and the first emergency responder was down, most of the team fanned out and screened. The guys who cared about dmg and match score got it. The guys who didnt kept the cap going.

We played the objective, won and laughed the whole time.

This happens EVERY blood river assault, to be honest. Eastern team always goes to tunnel and leaves saddle wide open... every damn time, so they always have to go back and defend their base from the 4 or 5 mechs on it. Without fail.

*team nascars*
*teams find themselves at the enemy base*
*teams go 'lets just cap'*
*game over*
*no profits were earned by anyone*

ive had a couple games like this. i just take up a suppression position to break cap or defend my cappers and usually get some damage in before the match ends.
