Where the higgety-hizzeck do you find more detailed record sheets for BattleTech units online?

I've been trying to find a breakdown of what goes where in the Hellion and possible the Grendel, mostly because I wanted to wile away time during a slowdown in my job figuring out a write-up to get people behind getting the durned things in the game, but I can find absolutely nothing that tells me where the blasted robits keep their gear in each of their configurations. Sarna tells me what they've got, but not where they've got it save sporadically, and knowing where the stock outfits keep their gear is pretty dang important for predicting hardpoint mixes in MWO.

Is there some website I can use to figure this out, or is this one of those things only people who have physical sourcebooks get to know?

You could download Solaris Skunk Works. Its a Java based mech designer but has the record sheets for most canon designs.

SSW has also been revived for active development recently so they are actively fixing any errors and adding any missing bits.

I made some spreadsheets on the two mechs in question:

IMO, the Grendel is okay but I think that a 45-tonner with more pod space would be a better choice because the Clans already have several high-speed mechs in that weight range.

The Hellion is alright too. These spreadsheets are old so I don't have the actuators listed by-variant (and the Hellion's actuators aren't listed at all).

Try this website out, Flechs Sheets. Just type in the name of the mech in the box and a whole list of the variants shows up. Click the one you want to see the record sheet of. This site is absolutely awesome for tabletop cause the record sheets are interactive.

Much appreciated, Fup. I'll admit, I have a none-too-secret love affair for 'Mechs on the quicker side of Go Time; the Viper is the only 'mech I bought an Ultimate Collection for because back in the lost annals of history I had a whole big thread basically shamelessly begging for it over the Chilly Hamster. Love those things, even if they're sadly terrible these days. Arms are made of spun sugar, and in any reasonable Viper build tend to contain at least half the thing's firepower. Oh well.

So the Grendel/Mongrol isn't as replete with potential as I'd hoped, even if I'd still absolutely adore a 45-tonner with thirteen tons of weapon space that moves like a Black Lanner and jumps like a Viper. Best you can do on the Grendel looks like 7e/1m, and that's with absolutely nothing else and assuming the Bravo CT. Still, even without the Bravo you could do 5x cMPL builds like the Chilly Hamster with the benefit of improved cooling and prodigious jump capacity. Depending on the final geo, could also make for an excellent light sniper/poptart with high RA/side torso energy mounts. Unlike Vipers, you can pack dual PPCs in it without stripping the arms, or with a bunch of heat sinks if you decide to be one of those guys and strip the arms. Options for both head and CT beams makes cERLL long-range laservomit a possibility as well - you can get 2x cERLL in 'safe' hardpoints and 4x cERML in maneuverable arms, with both engine heat sinks mounted and room for a third. I could see it being a contender, more competitive than the Black Lanner. At least on maps where hops matter for more than M.A.S.C./ECM.

The Hellion, though? That thing has potential. obvious light 'Mech light laser dagger spam, but I also see 1e/6m for 120kph Micro Splat with M.A.S.C. 11.5 tons of pod space means four 4s and two 2s at five tons of launcher, four tons of ammo, a couple of heat sinks, and a face-mounted flamer to get up to shenanigans with. Metamando, eat your heart out. if we got a -P variant of the Echo pods with machine guns over the AP Gauss, that's ECM in the head and jump-capable pods to boot. Would make the Hellion basically your one-stop shop for anything light 'Mech unless you actively needed a 150kph chassis for whatever reason. Definitely a contender for a 'line of battle' light 'Mech, which the Clans are sorely lacking right now. We've got fat too-slow gunboats and fragile high-speed harassers in plenty, but not much of nothing that can get in something's face and punch it till it cries. We won't get anything like a proper Wolfhound, but the Hellion might well be as close as we can get.

There's a mobile app called Mech Factory that's got heaps of it, as well as a tool for builiding your own things.

MegaMek, last I checked (a long while back), also had a host of non-canon units in it. If in doubt, check the Master Unit List if you aren't sure if a unit is canon. If it's not in the list, odds are overwhelmingly against it being canon.
