One of the biggest hurdles to map creation from a developer standpoint, as it has been explained to me, revolves around these items: availability of legal agreements, editor tools, complexity of design, assets, and ownership of textures. I imagine that with this community, these blockers largely aren't an issue and for the others, easy to mitigate risk.
- Ownership of Textures:
- Let us use the basic testing arena grid texture that is available already in the test map. PGI can spruce up any liked map layouts later as they want.
- Assets (Buildings, Bushes, Roads etc ...):
- Focusing on simple map layouts, geometry etc and leave assets of this type to be added/flavored to taste by PGI for any layout they like.
- Complexity of Design:
- Keep it simple, similar to the test map. Focus on layout and level design that can be modified later by PGI.
- Editor Tools:
- While it would be great to have a map editor, many community members have their own software that can be utilized if applicable ... as long as we know what the required file format is that needs to be utilized.
- Legal Agreements:
- Should be able to grab a boiler plate statement for surrender of IP to PGI regarding any designed levels; especially if other concerns like textures/assets are addressed as above.
Thanks!
