as per the title, which one do you consider as one of the best-bang-for-your-cbills-brawling-heavy-mech?

Go full survival on the skill tree + whatever else you feel you need. As with all brawl mechs, be patient, stay in the middle of the team until the fight closes to short range.

Well anything with 4 missile Hard Points is gonna be a good brawler. Bonus points for one ballistic (that can carry an LBx-20).

Brawling aint the meta anymore though. The new meta is longish range pokers. 4 large pulse sorta thing. Maps are getting anti-nascar-ed one at a time, and Brawling requires the Nascar.

When I play a brawler these days, I'll lose half my armor before I can even fire a shot.

It is satisfying though for the rare game where I can sneak up on some poker, in a brawler, and trounce him handily though. It's just rare is all.

both the Onion and the OnionIIC are great brawlers.

that said, you can brawl with many mechs, if you intend and build to do so.

brawling does NOT require nascar to work. and if you lose half your mech before a brawl, I highly suggest to get more patient.
either move more sneaky, or just don't move at all and stick with your team for a while.
strike/brawl at the right moment, and avoid the wrong ones.

Brawling was a thing before nascar as well. Just required some patience to wait for an opportunity before exposing yourself.

Except they are not on sale as title says.

Quote

Grasshopper, Champion, Cataphract. Night Gyr, Summoner, Linebacker

That is the list to choose from.

There is always full SRM Summoner and various Champion brawlers.

I wasn't aware, since I rarely play, if at all. out of that list however:
linebacker.
it is SO much fun to brawl in it. lots of srm work great, and you can always switch to the 6-7mpl-build once you had your srm-fill.

champion brawls well with uac20/medlasers, summoner ~works~ with srm, the rest I would NOT brawl in. they're good/great mechs, but not brawlers.

Nah brawling is dead.

If you wait till the teams close to brawling range you are waiting till the match has already been decided, because most of the match will be a bunch of poking.

The long range weapon buffs made the game a lot less fun.

Man this isn’t even close to true. This season I’ve put up the highest average match score of my time with MWO by playing almost exclusively UAC20/SRM/ERSL/MG mechs

Brawling isn't dead, it just requires more patience than before.

And don't forget to earn your free Warhammer 6R this month. Hands down, it is an excellent brawler.

I'm like that too.
Sale until Oct 1 is this.
Out of those I got at least 1 variant or more of
Lights - 2, others not interested in and Lights see so little play.
Mediums - got all but Hero Hunchback-IIC, none of the rest, Lanner and Dervish kinda interesting, others are meh.
Heavies - all but Night Gyr, not even sure it is worth it, seems just a heavier Nova Cat with ECM.
Assaults - 2 Stalkers and a Mad Cat, others just do not seem worth it.

Not that often since most choices are Domination that is chosen a lot to force brawling sooner but also has its own unique problems due to player behavior.

its not like in CoD who you have special brawl areas and you can run along with a Shotgun or MP for easy fast kills..here its the Skill to wait of the right moment for Action and hold down the Head before it come, and so most time a Brawler is Dead Tonnage for the Team and when the Match runs is bad, you the last survivor against the half enemy Team thats now hunting you.Better a Build thats can fight in each Range and have special power in close Range.

Brawling isn't dead. You just can't be as mindless about it as you're used to. I still brawl just fine, and I'm far from the most proficient brawler in the game. Brawling now is a game of pathing and awareness. Having even a minor amount of either increases your odds of closing the distance three fold.

think I can help here Posted Image
the gyr is an excellent mech, go get it while you can. it does ballistics+energy very well, and has the free tonnage to carry the biggest of em. a build I really like has 2x gauss +lasvom +ecm and it is a joy to pilot in QP; probably even better since the JJ-rework.
but it can run uac-dakka VERY well too, you can even spam ATMs with it, though I suggest not to (it just does other things better). all in all a very versatile mech, which gets only better in FW (the heat-quirks & you know the maps).

Lanner is a must have. Love my Bella, and buying another (standard varient) since they are on sale.
Dervish is alright, I guess. Good mix of missiles and lasers, can make some interesting things happen. Even though Inner Sphere mediums aint my bag.

Night Gyr is a great mech, for the new meta. Dont Brawl in it. Long range pokey pokey is where they shine, and well, that's the meta. Got 5 UAC2s on my hero Gyr (whatever it's called), and it does pretty good.
Linebacker also a must have. I own 2. They do SRMS very well, or you can do lasers + MGs.

Summoner isnt a "Brawler" as it's just not great for it. Too few hard points per location, so It wants BIG weapons, not 1.5ton SRM6s. So like the Gyr, it'll make a nice poker. But I suppose you could make UAC20s work, it's just a Barn Door is all.
