I've recently had problem with the monitor loosing signal at which point the only option is to do a hard reset, which I don't like because then I have to run chkdsk for 3 hours. It only seems to happen if you tab in/out from the destop or another application at an inopportune moment.

1) The few seconds the screen always goes black between the search and voting screen.

2) Same between the voting and waiting screen. If I'm in the mechlab or in a match there seems to be no problem tabbing in/out. Does anyone know why this is so?

no idea why, but try if unplugging/replugging the signal cable might help. i have a similar problem with my monitor.

I would check if the cables arent faulty (make sure they are plugged in properly) or make sure the monitor itself isnt faulty along with the graphics card and also the mandatory update drivers thing.

Sounds like a hardware issue than it does a software issues as my acer monitor of 7+ years is working fine (so far lol).

By alt-tabbing, your display device usually goes into low-energy mode, which the game doesn't like at all. Try using full windowed mode instead of full screen.

I'm already running that (full windowed). I'm fairly sure it's not hardware related since it so far only happens with MWO and not other games/applications.

And make sure that Windows Update is absolutely NOT tampering with the drivers either, or you could end up on bad drivers that will mess you up. :(

EDIT :: That reminds me... If it already happens that Windows Update did mess your drivers up, sometimes reinstalling the last stable driver version that you had working (and thought you were still on) will fix things. :)

Reminds me that every time windows or nvidia updated the drivers it turned my soundcard off. Just had to turn in back on but it was annoying AF.

The problem persists. I haven't played for 3 weeks or so and the computer has not shown any problems while watching a lot of videos and playing other games (admittedly old ones).

Last night I played 2 marches and everything went well but my settings had reverted to some kind of default, both graphics and keymap. Today at the end of a match I got attacked by an SRM boat, just as the missiles hit my cockpit with that flash the screen went black and [no signal]. This is the first time it happens ingame, before it only happened in between loading screens. The fact that the computer (so far has run flawlessly) makes me think that the problem isn't hardware related but that it has something to do with MWO and Direct X.

I'd check in windows event viewer. Look for errors in the application or system sections (in the tree view, that's windows logs->application and windows logs->system)

Do you see an error at the time of your crash ?

HDMI cables break easy, when plugging in, and out many times. One day your monitor will turn (no signal), then a signal. It is not your monitor. It is your cable. People think their monitors/or TV's are broken when in fact it is the cable all along.

I had the same happen. So I updated the video card manually not letting windows do it installing it from amd myself. also checked the hdmi cable and found it worked. Monitor works fine since I tested it with my old laptop that I keep as my pc-repair-test bed. Turns out I just had a lot of dust in the pc and a $15 air can and ten minutes cleaning job fixed it.

One thing I noticce in game is lag or high-ish ping will have the mech bays load screen show up or the switch between mechbay to the match itself will go black for a few seconds. Just have to wait for it all to render. My pc is 11 years old now and still runs mwo.

i know ive re-capped my fair share of monitors. newer monitors seem to put all the filter caps in a power brick, which are very hard to work on. but it is a part you can usually replace for about $10-$20. but usually when this happens the monitor is finnicky in all situations and it progressively gets worse. it starts with the back light shutting down after a period of use, and that period gets shorter and shorter until you are constantly fighting with it to stay on.

its more likely you have a finnicky cable that needs to be replaced. get the shortest one possible or an active cable if you need a long run.

Sounds like video chip is dying. You need to check Windows Event log. If it contains drivers crash events, then, I guess, you need to replace your video card. It happened with my 660GTX back in old times. First it was starting to lag and crash (sometimes with just driver crash, but sometimes with computer hanging) within 10 minutes after computer start, but at some point it just died completely.

Run a stress test of your CPU and GPU using OCCT. Could be a power supply issue rather than GPU issue (voltage drop under load causing the GPU to crash), in which case the problem will become more frequent as your PSU continues to degrade..

I suspect the above being the issue. MWO can spike the fps into high 600s and up during the loading screens which consecutively spikes the power intake of the graphics card. I'd try limiting the FPS via the graphics card's software first and see if the issue goes away.

I must have gotten a bit unlucky if that's the problem. The PC is old but the PS is a 4 year old Seasonic Platinum. It's not the cable considering I've not had this problem for 3 weeks and (so far) only in relation to MWO. When I see temps the CPU never goes above 51 degrees Celsius and the load never exceeds 49%, 90% of gaming time it's around 40%. There's no hardware reports in event log.

That said I don't want to break anything with a stress test IF the PSU or something else is giving up. I'm looking for a new computer next year so I just refrain from playing. I was thinking of using this as a ftp or similar.

I've had this issue too...

Resolved it by buying a new HDMI cable.

You can still try to limit your FPS and see what happens.
