Not since switching to Linux.

Linux and all its permutations are great fun if you like to fiddle with stuff and build your own specialized os for a specialized task but for the majority they just want to turn on their pc and have it work with whatever it is they want to use. Linux is the exact opposite of that. More efficient use of hardware for sure(if you can find drivers) but at a time cost as you tweak your installation and no distro can do it all yet.

the worst part about linux is picking a distro that covers all your bases. ive evaluated at least four as a win11 alternative. still want to evaluate win11 ltsc though, if i can find a grey market key. ive had good luck with win10 ltsc on my second rig. its windows without the bs, but of course its not sold retail.

Have you tried tiny10? It's a custom installer that rips out the bloatware guts of win10 much like nvcleanstall rips out all the junk from an nividia driver install.

i prefer to use first party isos for security reasons. though if those installers have had a proper security audit i would be fine with that. ltsc version have had all the crap stripped out by ms, but its very hard to get unless you have a volume license.

havent written off linux entirely yet either. debian 12 was a bust because my test rig had a nvidia card and i couldnt get any performance out of it. it was a 2070 super but ran like my 1060. main rig has a 7900xt and probibly wont have driver issues with linux. but there are still a whole bunch of other things that i want to make sure work before i take the hard plunge.

I installed Lubuntu from a live usb. All drivers came with base installation. No fiddling or tweaking needed. Installed steam, proton. downloaded Mwo, clicked play worked.
Linux has changed a lot since you formulated your opinion. Have had less issues with it than Windows 11.

Distro is not that hard (and not rly important). For gaming Nobara comes with a few patches drivers etc.
For everyday workload /office stuff probably just Linux Mint.

In the end it's not rly important, since everything can be installed changed anyway.
