I have to admit I've played this game @1080p for a few years on an outdated screen about 22 inches and 60hz.

Have any of you tried different setups and found something optimal that helps gameplay? Would like to upgrade soon and wonder if i'm missing things at long range because of my set up (especially as the game play has shifted to more range recently)

The most ideal is whatever you PC can handle and what you like. I use a 21:9 screen and my friend hates these with passion while I love it.
Some prefer curved one, something I don't see any benefit to buy. Then comes the question do you prefere correct colors or faster refreshrates, also this isn't as exclusive to each other anymore. How much money do you want to spend etc., etc.

I think there isn't a "one that covers everything" answere. First you have to see what you want out of a screen, then you look what is currently offered and pick one.

22in vs 27in vs 34in vs 42in. Some are actual monitors while others are LED TV used as a monitor :). Each has its uses but 22in would have quite a small footprint for myself. 1080 vs 2k vs 4k would be where your overall system setup itself on how well the game's FPS would come into play.

Generate your dxdiag and post the top portion of it, or use Speccy to give us an idea of what you have, as well as other games you may play regularly or more regularly then MWO.

Bigger is better, up to the point your GPU can no longer draw at a decent FPS.

27 inch 2k 144hz is the sweet spot (if u are not comp low input player i would suggest ips display). 4k lets your gpu burn for no real benefit (required gpu and monitors are rly expensive).

I can just list my specs as I build my PCs, specs are all pretty good with the exception of the gpu which is starting to get a bit older. Will replace when prices are better.

CPU - icore I5 9600k
RAM - 32gb corsair dual channel at 1066 ddr4
MB - z390-a pro
GPU - Geforce GTX 970 4gb
Storage - 500 gb WD SSD

If just MWO and your system, either 1080p (FHD) or 1440p (Quad HD), not 4K, with 27in being the sweet spot. MWO does not have a scalable UI, so a higher resolution, ie 4K on a small monitor has been notated as making it difficult to read things. 2K (1440p-Quad HD) would be the highest to go and likely not hurt the pocket book as much as a 4K would.

Also, on that GTX 970, what connections does it have? There are always adapters which can be purchased but double check.

Do you have LCD/LED TVs in the house? They may have just HDMI but many would also work as a monitor, even if it just short term/test (honey, just checking something out, will put it back!!) to see how it looks. When I had one of my systems connected to a 45in Vizio, I rarely had to hit that zoom wheel Posted Image

Run whatever is native to your monitor and what your system can handle.

I've played at various res/screens and machines.

Has not altered my gameplay performance at all.
