Greetings MechWarrior's

We wanted to send an update to our original announcement concerning the recent moderation of a team name referencing Transgender rights. Specifically, we would like to address our community regarding the application of the MWO Code of Conduct (CoC) as it relates to our own internal Diversity, Equity & Inclusion practices.

Lucky for us, Piranha Games has access to excellent resources, including; internal and external subject matter experts, documentation, and training for staff. We strive to ensure our moderation is as fair and inclusive as possible. To that end, we are in the process of conducting a review of our CoC, and will update as appropriate. When we finalize the update to the CoC we will make a new post on MWOMERCS.COM to highlight the changes

Our high-level goals are:
> Making allowances for inclusive pilot and team names
> Reviewing and potentially re-defining forum rules, and the application of those rules
> Providing more clarity on the definition of Chat Spamming
> Continuously iterating on what else can be done to support any and all vulnerable demographics

We also want you to know we are aware of on-going community behavior, moderation concerns, and questions. In-game chat moderation rules will remain – we want you to focus on the game and have fun!

We’d also like to take the time to thank everyone for their feedback and discussion surrounding this topic. We understand this is an important and sensitive subject for many. Your patience is very much appreciated while do the work to create a safer and more inclusive gameplay experience for everyone!

Look, here is the problem.

You got people commenting hot-button issues over the comms, whose non-mwo related topic borders on emotional blackmail that to scrutinize means you are kind of a bad-person, and to disallow you are a bad-person, and what lets them perpetuate this is that they default on your supposed stance to dismiss any criticism. Politics are inherently divisive, and even if you don't consider them as politics, people coming from the real world outside of these community will still react to them as such, and is still divisive.

Here's what you can do:

Just shut up about it.

Any attempt to associate with these communication will backfire. Like when Russ was criticized over a "Confederate" Flag, it will always just look like an inept damage-control from a company who doesn't really care but just needs to appear to do so for reputation. This is blood on the water, and sharks are coming.

As is the CoC is fine, if your aim is the Diversity and Inclusion, the LGBT support, etc. I mean what else are you going to do? Disallow these kind of comments? The irony is that they are much more quieter when you're not getting in their way.

i noticed as soon as it went up the trans rights thread got locked. the coc updates was really a move to suppress in the guise of appearing "woke". im all for keeping subforums and in-game chats to the designated topic. but i have a feeling pgi's tendency to brush anything unpleasant under the rug is all going to backfire in this case. thats kind of why off topic exists, so that you can keep debate in a place where its not in the way of normal functions. so long as the threads stay civil and in the right place i dont see any reason to lock them.
