Glad to announce, that I touched Tier 1 (how long?).

Even with strange non-meta assaults, which I bought 1 year ago. They can fight.
Experience is your friend.

I ll play assaults for some time, before going back to light division for a long time.

I love this game. See you on battlefield.

At which you realise that the matchmaking pool is that small, that it makes no discernible difference to anything, except guaranteeing the 4 man groups of +99% are always in your match making pool.

As soon as you hit T2 it's basically a forgone conclusion. Hitting T1 doesn't increase that.

There are some 100k matches played of MWO each month and T1 has around 10% of the population in it.

The amount of 99% groups getting around is extremely rare. I know people on the forums like to make out like it's every match. Fact of the matter is that isn't true.

Lol no 1 I know is happy about being in tier 1. Tier 1 game play isn't the best.

And Tier 2-5 are progressively worse. Your point?

I get it's rare- but once you end up in matchmaking lockstep with one, you're either stuck, or hoping to die early and get out of lockstep... and risk sitting in queue for them to reappear anyhow.

The moral of the post, made shortly after about 5 from 6 matches with the one same group, is the tier 1 pool isn't big enough to escape lockstep with a any group outside of NA/euro peak times. I stand by that.

People who say Tier 1 is the same game don't remember T4 and T5, or weren't inactive long enough to drop to the bottom.

I got the Ace of Spades (8 kills) achievement after playing this game on/off for about 6 years at the time. It was like, my 2nd match back playing in T5.

I dare to say that nascar can be experienced in lower Tiers too.

As for "where every ones a clone and acts like them" ...

Yes, in T1 you see less T5 builds with 'Mechs sporting four different kinds of missiles and three different lasers, and you meet less players standing still when fired upon ...

... but even in T1 you have players who run brawling 'Mechs, fast flankers, sniper builds, medium range combatants or agile light 'Mechs. Even some stray LRM boat or Streak boat can be spotted occassionally. Posted Image

When you move to Tier 1, you will see it all with your own eyes.

And that doesn't mean you don't see non-standard builds, just that people tend to optimize better.

I dropped a little, because I was experimenting with gauss Fafnir and Thanatos. Some teams were angry for my snipers mechs, "look, its fresh Fafnir hiding here, that ****!" I don't like sniper style much, its too hard and need many conditions.

Behind experience, there are some conditions to get to Tier 1, in my case:

1) Dont use all PPC weapons (exp some lights, didnt try yet).
2) Dont use all Gauss weapons.
3) Dont use Er Lasers (exp. specials builds like Super Nova).
4) Dont use all ATM.
5) Dont use all Heavy Lasers (exp. some vomit cases).
6) Use Seismic sensors (exp. lite stealths).
7) Use AMS (exp. stealths)
8) Use UAV and Strikes.
9) Combine good range (large pulse lasers, AC, UAC, LBX 2-10, MRM, medium lasers) with close range (small lasers, small pulse lasers, SRM, HMG, 1-2 flamers). I dont hate good LRM mechs too.

Sniper style is bad:
If your team good, they kill all, while you do little damage.
If your team bad, then 2 variants:
- they die fast and all enemy team kill you, you do some damage, but LOW bonus play.
- fast angry guys find you immediately and kill, then go further.

Honestly it boils down to "make lots of match score, preferably by dealing lots of damage" :)

The problem with tier 1 is the easiest way to get there is to be one of the guys that hovers in the middle of the pack and shoots really well while the "lesser" players make the plays and take the risks. Leads to a lot of people who play like that getting grouped together in tier 1 so they can stand around and wait for something to happen.

Trick is to get there learning to take risks and make things happen instead of waiting for the enemy. It will take longer to get to tier 1 because your gonna screw up and die a bunch. But if you do hit tier 1, you will be better than most tier 1s.

Congrats! You will find that once you get the hang of assaults, their ability to influence games is mostly unparalleled, particularly given the new changes to maps which have reduced nascar, the fact that many of them have had significant agility buffs, and the buffs to weapons this year which assaults can boat like no other.

See you out there!
