Regularly running into grossly unbalanced weight distributions? I feel like I can't bring a light mech because I have carry weight difference.

I would like to suggest the matchmaker at least try. Just the last match the enemy team has 4 assaults to our 1 with a mishmash of lights and mediums.

These were not scrub assaults it was full on meta. Maybe I'm just an idiot. I don't play often but figured I'd give MWO another spin.

Right now, because of soup queue (the merger of solo and group queue), the matchmaker no longer balances based on weight.

The reality is that you can still score extremely well in a light, but you're likely to lose a bit more, because on average tonnage increases the chance of a win. I say that as someone who plays mostly lights.

Keep in mind that you can always group up and run a bunch of assaults, and your win rate will go up dramatically. There are still a number of units recruiting. And the plus side is that, with group drops now mixed with solo drops, you won't be stuck in group queue any more playing against organized 12-mans.

The game does attempt to match by weight, but it prioritizes PSR over that, so if it comes down to matching you by weight or matching you by PSR, it will drop the weight parameter in favour of not matching you up against someone that will either trounce you, or that you will trounce.

This isn't helpful.

We have to remember that at peak hours this game has maybe 1000 users. If every one of them was engaged in a match, there'd be just over 40 games, and that's likely not the case, youll have players sitting in lobbies, some in faction play, some in the mechlab. The sample size for each match is fairly limited, so in general, alot of release valves need to open before you can find a match. One of the first ones out the window is weight. One of the last out the window is your PSR.

This actually makes sense; for example a Tier 2 player in a light is vastly more dangerous than a tier 4 player in an assault as far as I am concerned.

In a perfect world there would be better balance for sure - I can remember a recent quickplay drop where our team had no assaults and our opponents honestly had a whole lance of Dire Wolves.

But the more the match maker focuses on building perfect matches the longer we all wait; I'm pretty ADHD myself and so I'm grudgingly okay with fast matches even if they are unbalanced - if it means the "quick" in quick play is actually a thing.
The typical wait time for a faction match, for example, is just too long for me. I've honestly tried a few times to wait for faction matches and every single time my internal "screw this garbage" timer ran out before I got a match.

Pretty much. We seem to be getting alot of these "omg weight imbalance" posts. People would be a lot more angry if it was PSR out the window first, than weight.

I would much rather be 150-200 tons down than be playing against a significant skill disparity. I've been bouncing in and out of T3 and I've had a couple games where the OpFor was heavily stacked against a clearly inferior team.

It was not fun.
