MECHWARRIOR ONLINE
December 2021 Patch Notes

Patch Date and Time - December 14th 2021 @ 10AM – 1PM PDT
Version Number: 1.4.249.0
Size: 260MB
Please note that due to compression differences the Steam patch size may be larger than the standalone client patch size.

Greetings MechWarriors!

It's the last patch of another year of MechWarrior Online, and what a year it has been! 2021 saw the first new content added to MWO in years, including new 'Mech variant packs like the Stryker, Warden and Hunter Booster Packs, and re-balanced maps like Canyon Network and Viridian Bog, with some having extensive overhauls such as Polar Highlands and HPG Manifold. Speaking of new 'Mech variants and new maps...the Predator Booster Pack is available now for Pre-Order and arrives next month. Then there's maps. Specifically, this month's map, Hellebore Outpost. Based on the biome from the Faction Play map Hellebore Springs, Outpost was designed from the ground-up by Francois, and represents the first completely new map to MWO in years. This will be a Quick Play map, and there are lots of previews below. We hope you enjoy it!

January is right around the corner, and with that will come another patch, and more news about the future of MechWarrior Online in 2022!

As with everything, these updates are subject to further balance changes in the future, especially as more variables are brought into the equation with future updates and changes.

So get out there and do the science, and get us your feedback for future iterations!

Happy Holidays MechWarriors!

And now, we hope you enjoy the patch.

-The MechWarrior Online Team

NEW MAP: HELLEBORE OUTPOST
Hellebore Outpost is a new Quick Play map, based on the biome from the Faction Play map Hellebore Springs. Outpost was designed from the ground-up by Francois, and represents the first completely new map to MWO in years.

WEAPON ADJUSTMENT
As a continuation of our assessment of weapon performance, the following change has been made:

Clan ER Large Laser:
  • Heat increased to 10 (from 9.5)

EQUIPMENT ADJUSTMENT
This patch includes a small boost to the dissipation performance of single heat sinks. The aim for this change is to make single heat sinks into valid options for number of mechs and build configurations.

Single Heat Sink:
  • Dissipation increased to -0.15 heat per second (from -0.14)
  • Heat capacity increased to 0.85 per external single heat sink (from 0.75) *
Note: the initial 10 single heatsinks on a mech provide 2.25 capacity (including both external and engine)

Patch Files (Direct Download)

To make the patching process easier for players with limited download caps, we'll be providing direct download links for the patch file(s) that comprise this patch. This will allow you to download the patch file(s) elsewhere, for manual injection into the MWO patcher through a Patch Cache folder.

Aside from allowing you to download the patch file(s) elsewhere, on another connection, there are no additional benefits to performing the patch this way; the patching process itself will be the same.

This direct patch download process will only work for players running the standalone client. It does not apply to players running MWO through Steam.

Patch File(s): - http://patcher.mwomercs.com/patch/Production/frontend/FrontendPatch_395.zip

  • Download the above file(s)
  • For sake of ease, we recommend creating a dedicated folder for the patch file(s), such as 'MWO Patch Cache'
  • You do not need to unzip or unpack the patch file(s)
  • Launch the MWO Portal
  • Select the three horizontal lines in the top left of the Portal Window
  • Choose the 'Specify Patch File Cache' option
  • In the field that appears, paste or enter the location in which you saved the patch file(s) and hit OK
  • For example, C:\Users\<username>\Documents\MWO Patch Cache
  • Click the blue Patch button
  • The launcher will now check the Patch Cache folder you defined. If it locates the required patch files, it will unpack and use those files to apply the patch.
  • Once the patch is complete, launch the game

The Thor's ammo boost sounds cool, could make a few more builds viable, and the new map looks very unique, hope it plays well. Thanks for the game's continued support Posted Image

Gonna be a lot of AC20 Jagers in the couple weeks following this patch.

I agree with increasing the ballistic cooldown on the A, I didnt understand why it had the worst cooldown of all the variants.

Did I miss them fixing the reticle shake on the loyalty atlas when using JJ or is it supposed to make you want to throw up?

Still no love for the Victor-9K? It's such a sad little 80 tonner...

New map looks like it will be fun, and another nice set of balance tweaks from the Cauldron.

Hopefully we'll have a roadmap with some modicum of engineering resources for next year.

No Engine Heat Sinks for that new Night Gyr? Figured I'd have seen that in the bug fixes. I scrolled pretty quick, but I didn't think I saw that chassis mentioned anywhere.

Also, you had me with the new map until the part of the video that showed the Domination antenna underneath that platform... Conquest makes sense to be in a covered area. An HPG antenna? That's theoretically looking into space? Shouldn't that have an unobstructed view of the sky? Its elevation doesn't matter for gameplay, so I'm surprised to see that kind of placement.

I look forward to the new map being full of little oddities and QC issues.

But I also look forward to the new map.

I think the NTG and Atlas jump shake fix might be included... just not listed... it's for PGI to double check.

Also, yeah... the antenna could have been up top... since Domination circle is a cylinder anyway so, the location of the antenna would not matter along the z axis..

What are you trying to run on it?

1 LGR, 2x HPPC, LFE 280, 6x JJs. The 9K has really bad hardpoint locations (underslung and wide apart), inferior hardpoint counts compared to other 80 tonners (Pick any other Victor; 7 total hardpoints to the 9K's 6; plus the 9K's arm actuators seriously limit ballistic and energy options). The Dragonslayer has similar quirks, more hardpoints, better energy hardpoint placement; permitting for more build options, plus the PPC HSL +1 quirk which allows it to run a Gauss rifle with 2x H-PPCs, making very good use of its hardpoints and quirks.

Meanwhile the Victor-9K can equip 6x JJs... which might mean something on an Assault mech in MWO if we could perform Highlander Burials, but taking advantage of the 9K's only distinction requires sacrificing tonnage and slots on a variant already starved for offensive options.

And going Frankenmech on a Victor 9K isn't going to set it apart from its other variants. Once again, it has one less hardpoint than the other Victors, and the arm Actuators/hardpoint placement prevent it from running 3x PPCs, UAC-20s, or AC-20s.

Finally, 4 of its 6 hardpoints are on the arms, underslung, and quite wide apart. Lasers have a hard time staying on a moving target when the least little obstacle in your periphery can interrupt full laser duration; PPCs on low mounts find every invisible wall on the map.

I'd hoped that building around the JJs would carve out a niche for the 9K, because if you don't build for the JJs... Well, every other Victor does every build possible on the 9K better.

Frankly, I'm a bit mystified the Dragonslayer got the PPC family HSL quirk; the 9K needed something like that even more than the Dragonslayer.

So IS gets nerfed armor to Jaegermechs, and clans get massive buffs to summoners and hellbringers.

Sure, seems legit. Right around the "fairness" and "balance" lip service IS normally gets treated to.

Finally! Posted Image

After a long waiting, my Hero Firestarter "Firestorm", that had to be bought for cash, will cease to be the suckiest Firestarter in the game.

I kinda questioned the loss of Armor/Structure quirks too on the Jaeger, given that it's shaped like a catcher's mitt. At least it got some nice offensive buffs.

As for the hellbringer getting armor buffs (especially in the arms, that most builds just strip down anyways), that's just weird. The Hellbringer is still widely considered to be one of the best mechs in the game overall; why the hell buff it? You know players are just going to use the up-armored arms to strip even more armor out of them for their laser-vomit peeking meta build; seriously WTF are we making that thing better for?

The Summoner on the other hand needs all the help it can get.

I can confirm that fixes for those two issues are indeed in this patch.
