I understand that but the bug only manifested after the 10/11th gen intel hit and that was long after mwo went into maintenance mode. If it had manifested when they were still dumping money and dev time into the game it would probably have been updated. At least the good thing is its a super easy fix that takes only a couple of minutes on the user side and who knows if the new owners will feel the need to do an engine update. I suppose that would hinge upon how many users are actually on the effected cpu which to me would probably be a bit on the low side since its still recent tech and most are still on older cpu.
for an active software product that is turning a profit, i think that its kind of an unacceptable way to approach maintenance. sure hardware and software is updating around it and sometimes the game is going to be broken under that. while there might be a workaround now to resolve the issue, its also a sign of things to come. when the workarounds start saying downgrade windows, or use old hardware and that starts severely impacting player numbers, you got a problem. right now the solution is to use a less secure version of openssl. this kind of workaround should be temporary and the game should be upgraded to the new version, the use of deprecated features should be reduced as much as possible and the whole thing recompiled if necessary/possible. pgi is simply sticking their head in the sand so they cant see the sky falling and hoping they can get away without doing something expensive.
