Have a 100 ton assault and a 75 ton heavy - bot with armor that is fairly similar.

Need to understand what benefits the tonnage gives on top of the armor.

Thanks.

Short answer… payload. A larger mech will usually have more tonnage available for weapons and equipment. The main exception is a faster moving large mech, as it needs to devote a higher percentage of its tonnage to engine weight. Fast is cheap when you’re small, it gets more expensive the heavier you are.

Check out MechDB here…. https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/. With it you can plug and play equipment into any mech and experiment.

Examples… here’s a 75 ton Marauder with max armor, an engine and a weapon load out. He has 8 tons remaining for ammo, heat sinks, and other equipment…. https://mwo.nav-alph...cf93493e_MAD-3R

Here’s the exact same equipment stuffed into a 100 ton Atlas. You’ll note he has 27 tons left to play with, but he moves much slower with that same engine. https://mwo.nav-alph...=71528795_AS7-D

you won’t be able to get that 100 ton mech to move at the same speed, as it’s above his engine cap. If you crank the engine up to as fast as it can go, you have about 16 tons to play with. https://mwo.nav-alph...=60e2a5c0_AS7-D
