Im no lore expert, but i n general the rule in MWO is the following:
ENDO gives you the most tonnage extra and on most mechs this is the one and only armor upgrade you want.
Light FERRO is used in situations where you need every slot you can get your hands on (many vomit builds needs the space for DHS and cant afford ENDO), but you can get a little extra tonnage, usually less then 1 ton though so its usually just gonna be a DHS or a half ton of ammo.
FERRO is pretty much exlcusively for builds that dont need many slots, and some lights that need every gram of tonnage to fit what little anemic firepower they can. It is basivcally useless in 90% of situations on heavys and assaults since there is no build i can think of that is doable with 28 slots locked, you either need that extra 14 for heatsinks, ammo, or weapons themselves (IS ballistics take up ALOT of slots unlike clam).
Normally go ENDO+STD armor, STD+LFF armor, or both on many some light mechs. Its not hard rule, but in general avoid FERRO since its cost in slots is too great outside of very light mechs and some niche builds.
