This kind of mode can work with rapid repeated rounds, taking turns as VIP, and the teams switching sides.

I remember there was this VIP mode where you had Team Morpheus vs Team Agent Smith. On Team Morpheus, one guy would play as Neo for that round. It was a very fast-paced affair, as within 1 minute or so you'd either get Neo to the pay phone so he could escape, or Neo would be dead. IIRC, during each round, Team Agent Smith had infinite respawns, while members of Team Morpheus would not respawn.

Then it'd switch to another player to be Neo in the next round. Repeat until everyone has had a chance to play as Neo, and then the two sets of players switch sides, so that the guys previously playing as Agent Smith would now play on Team Morpheus.

You might be able to duplicate such a game mode with Mechs, with the Assassination Team having respawns and the Escort Team not having any respawns. But the problem is that MWO is definitely not fast paced, so instead of finishing a game like this in 24 minutes (1 minute each round, with every player on both sides having a chance to be VIP), it'd instead end up taking like 168 minutes (7 minutes per round, 24 rounds).

Easy enough to base it on a high(est) PSR from a pool of 25 to make the drop, try thinking on a positive note for a change . . . . .

Highest PSR in a Tier 5 game? When a 45 game user more than likely has a higher PSR due to starting position vs 1000 game low skill players at the bottom end of T5?

The flaws and holes in his absolutely horrid idea just keep coming.

It would be even worse than the AI controlled mode which was equally terrible.

Let's remember that there are people who *don't* pay a shred of attention to the game mode and its' conditions. Cue VIP suicide-rushing enemy firing lines or staying in the drop zone for the whole match to try farming damaged opponents at the end...

complex game modes do not work in games without respawn. simple game modes barely work. the modes we have in qp are pretty much an extra end condition for when you got a troll left who wants to waste everyone's time. conquest is the only mode that plays even remotely different from skirmish and barely (significantly less skirmish-like in fp where there is respawn).

Escort mode doesn't really suit a game that only offers different versions of Team King of the hill.

The mode itself was super awful. If you can find some friends it still works in private lobbies afaik.

Also worth noting the game doesn't really have AI like that.

Perhaps this may be a kind of heresy, but...
Shouldn't be Incursion better for an FP mode than QP? Incursion could be partly an escort but not fully, instead a big mix of CTF + escort + domination\conquest with lots of mobile engagements (if objective accomplishment would be rewarded over sheer "Ima killya all" stuff)...

So why not make it a player driven mode, where the players are the VIP.


The game mode is to get from point A to B.


the objectives for the vip could be to help or hurt their team.


the vip could be like a sheep or running around like a chicken.


the variety on good maps could be there maybe a game mode that could break out the norm but still reward the brawly, nascar with the escort with a twist from the brain dead bot march point a to b.



i think it is a mode could work well take not much work. VIP teams of 1 to 5 player teams of the 10 to 12 area.

wha-oh wait its a 2022 post, I thought someone necroed an old pre-escort game mode implementation thread. I dont think a non NPC VIp can work in this mode without new vehicle models, or building a game mode that would work instead of follow the big target atlas with 300 tons of armor
